Please HELP and donate $10-$25-$50 to http://saveorangecounty.org/ IT NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

Orange County Staff is trying to FORCE 4000 New Homes NEXT to the Big Econ River (rural boundary) inside the rural area in East Orange County.
The Big Econ is a Florida designated waterway which runs North through Seminiole County and into the St.Johns River close to Highway 46 in Mims Near Puzzle Lake and Lake Harney. This area is one of the most popular places to visit with an airboat and many of you have visited Jolly Gator Fish Camp, Hatbill Park, Loughman Lake Lodge, Bears Bluff, Bull shit Hill and Buzzard Mound.

Professionals and Biologist have PLEADED with Orange County Staff that this WILL be a DISASTER to the future to this pristine waterway.
We have many examples all over Central Florida of polluted rivers and lakes (Brevard County Fish Kill, Wekiva River, Lake Apopka) from urban sprawl to close to these waterways that destroy them.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
-Get your airboat club involved TODAY and have them follow these steps. (even if you don't live near this waterway)
-Sign this petition http://saveorangecounty.org/ GOAL 10,000- so far 9567 (when you sign- it will email all our commissioners).

Tuesday June 14th is the final decision for the mega development East of the Econ.
It starts at 2pm and will carry into the evening.
PLEASE attend for a couple of hours.
Either at 2pm or after work.
Puzzle Lake, Lake Harney and the Big Econ NEED A VOICE AND YOU ARE THAT VOICE!!!

Dut to the Orlando Terrorist attack.
The June 14th BCC meeting is cancelled and will be moved to a later date.
We will keep you posted.

On July 12th Commissioner Ted Edwards led the charge to allow MASSIVE urban sprawl along the Big Econ WildlifeCorridor/River Basin.
After many many hours of professionals, biologist, engineers and locals testimony and over 10,500 signed petitions and over 25 large groups OPPOSING crossing the Big Econ rural boundary we lost the Text Amendment vote 4-3.
Mayor Jacobs, Commissioner Jennifer Thompson and Commissioner Pete Clarke led the fight for the East Orange County residents.

Ted Edwards, Commissioner Scott Boyd, Commissioner Bryan Nelson and Commissioner Victoria Siplin IGNORED all the data from the professionals and IGNORED the will of the people.

The zoning vote was pushed off until September 20th. This is a good thing and means it is not a done deal.
This gave us time to re- organize and pursue an appeal to a judge that was filed last week.

This will drag out the process for another year or so. BUT we are hopeful.

In the meantime we are pursuing a municapality which means we will be our own city, town or village and any development will have to go thru US!
"Coach P" (Rene Plasencia) in District 50 is sponsoring our municapality and using one of his bills for us.
Save Orange County has endorsed Coach P and his district 50 in cludes East Orange County and the Titusville area which the St.Johns river goes thru. We urge you to vote for him!
www.VoteCoachP.com

We also have vowed to remove our current commissioner Ted EDwards and replace him with Tim Mckinney.
Save Orange County has endoresed Tim Mckinney and we ask ALL East Orange resdidents in District 5 to vote for him.
www.VoteTimM.com
The elections are under way and we need to get Tim to the general election.
So IF you are a registered voter PLEASE VOTE for the AUGUST 30th election.
IF Ted get over 50% of the votes HE IS OUR COMMISSIONER AGAIN for the next 4 years and the possibilty of East Orange count being developed all the way to the St.Johns river IS A REALITY!
If you would like to donate to our cause please do so @ www.SaveOrangeCounty.org

Thank you ! :old_glory:

SOC Candidate Endorsements

The main race is District 5 in East Orange County. Commissioner Ted Edwards is the one who led the charge against 10,500 signed petitions and voted to cross the Big econ with MASSIVE URBAN Sprawl.

Save Orange County endorses Tim Mckinney and ask if you see his name on the ballot to vote for him so we can get Ted Edwards OUT.

We also support Coach P in District 50. He is our state rep and the Big Econ and the St.Johns runs through his district.

Voting is THIS Tuesday. IF ANY CANDIDATE gets over 50% of the votes they are automatically our next commissioner. NO run off in November.
VOTE, VOTE, VOTE August 30th!

BIG ECON UPDATE
FINALLY!
The people have spoken! :old_glory:
District 5 Commissioner Ted Edwards had held office for 18 years. He led the charge against 10, 500 signed petitioners and voted to allow MASSIVE URBAN SPRAWL inside the Big Econ River Basin/Wildlife Corridor.
WE VOTED HIM OUT OF OFFICE on November 8th

TOGETHER the community DEFEATED the Lake Pickett North development (Rybolt Ranch) on November 15th.

Now "we" the community have appealed the Orange County's decision to approve Lake Pickett South (which was approved in July).

This will go before a judge in the middle of December 2016.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DEFEAT the Lake Pickett South decision which allowed MASSIVE URBAN SPRAWL and 20,000 MORE vehicle trips a day to East Seminole/Orange County.

SAVE THE BIG ECON and donate $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100 towards the appeal fund raiser @ https://www.gofundme.com/save-natural-florida

This will help PRESERVE the Big Econ for future generations!

Thank you!

Reflections

As we prepare in baited anticipation of what the New Year will bring, we also should reflect on the outgoing year. As in most cases, we are treated with some disappointments and with some happiness – such is life!

Let’s dispense with the disappointment first. We certainly were disappointed that the Orange County BCC voted to approve the zoning for Lake Pickett South (The Grow). The BCC failed miserably by approving this development and ignoring both their own land use plan and the promises made to the east community to keep a rural atmosphere for the east-side.

However, we could not be happier with our community and all those voters in District 5 who supported our cause and turned a deft-toned commissioner out of office – good riddance Ted Edwards!

Because of the voters’ results in the District 5 elections, Save Orange County believes that the BCC took the opportunity to reject the zoning for Lake Pickett North. None of this would have happened without the support of thousands of every day citizens supporting Save Orange County’s cause - which is the community’s cause to protect a rural way of life so that our children and theirs will still be able to see and enjoy some green spaces in Orange County.

Some would read the above and conclude that the matter of development east of the Econ is done and that the fight is over. That is not the case and the battle is continuing. First off is that, with the commitment of one of our Board, coupled with the support of the Sierra Club, 1000 Friends of Florida, The League of Women Voters and several other citizens, a legal appeal has been made challenging the Orange County BCC’s vote to change the Future Land Use Map (FLUM) by voting on the Text Amendment that changed the land use for rural designated lands from 1 unit per 10 acres to 6 units per acre.
The challenge is that the County’s vote was improper and that the results are not compatible or consistent with the FLUM. That challenge will not be heard for several more months and has effectively stopped LPS from turning the pasture lands into suburbia. Much work and money is being spent to keep this challenge going. When all legal proceedings are said and done, if the ruling is upheld that the County violated its own rules and the Text Amendment is voided, then the lands in both LPS and LPN would revert to 1 unit per 10 acres. You can donate to help with the appeal by going to https://www.gofundme.com/save-natural-florida.

Another result that was achieved with the event of Edwards being ousted is that we have a new District 5 Commissioner, Emily Bonilla, who we all know as a stanch conservative on protecting the rural lands. She will become the voice that Edwards ignored – the voice of the majority of citizens she now represents. If the Text Amendment is upheld, it will fall to her as to what happens to the lands on Lake Pickett North when, and if, they make another application to develop those lands.

MOVING FORWARD

As indicated there is much anticipation of what the New Year will hold starting with the legal appeal to the Text Amendment. The final decision will have a profound impact for years to come on the lands east of the Econ not only for LPS and LPN but for all rural lands as the decision will set the bar on future developments.

408 Extension – Where will the Expressway Authority finally settle on building the much anticipated and much needed relief to State Road Highway 50? Will the decision build the 408 down the middle of SR 50 – which would be the logical place, or will the new road run ½ mile or more north or south of SR 50? Save Orange County anticipates a decision on the placement of the route sometime in 2017.

Municipality – There is serious discussion about establishing and incorporating a new city on the east-side. Some years ago, there were talks of incorporating Bithlo that never came into fruition, mainly because of the small geographic location, limited population, and the lack of political will. Now discussions by Save Orange County with a number of folks, including but not limited to, the Florida League of Cities, several legislators and other concerned citizens are underway. What is pushing this option is the realization that developers will continue to assault the east-side and we can be faced with a never-ending battle with county commissioners with only two presently living in east Orange County. By incorporating, we may be in a better position to control our own destiny and keep local taxes right here in east Orange County. There are a number of questions to creating a new city, not least of which is, what will my taxes be if we become a city? A feasibility study should answer that question. Save Orange County is in the process of raising the necessary funding for this project. Readers can help by going to Save Orange County’s Facebook account or website www.saveorangecounty.org.
