sbc trouble

Knocked off work early figured I'll take the boat out. Get to the ramp put the boat in loaded up all my crap started her up and started to go and I stalled. Had a hard time getting it fired again but it did start. Hit the throttle no problems let off the gas and it stalled. It will idle, if I stomp it will run fine as soon as I back out it stalls. I also get smoke out of the carb when it stalls. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. See what happens when you sneak out of work to have a little fun.

Curdog,

I'd start with the carb. Is it a Holley? Check the idle circuit for restriction. Also check the accelerator pump for splits or a ruptured diaphram.

Water? Once water covers the jets it won't idle. Some blasts with the Accelerator pump can get rid of enough water to start and run half a$$ed. Check your filters and if it's a Holley loosen off a bottom bowl screw and see if you can catch the discharge in someting clean to see if you have water, the water will come out first. It will look like a clear bubble at the bottom of the fuel! 8) Diesel accumulates the same way, level builds up and covers the jets and runs crappy, blast some out and it runs ok for a while! However I don't imagine you would put diesel in your airboat, Unless it's a diesel!
