Sea Tow

randyc

Well-known member
I broke down on the Gulf Thursday afternoon and couldn't raise anybody on the radio but Sea Tow.They came and pulled me to the boat ramp, and handed me a bill for $1000.When I went to pay it the next day, they agreed to reduce it to $700,if I became a member.
If I had been a member, which is only $149 a year, they wouldn't have charged me anything and you are covered no matter whose boat you're in.
Needless to sat,I joined up.$149 a year for 24 hour service is hard to beat.

Boat US (http://www.boatus.com/) offers tow insurance with membership. For $85 a year, you have $500 worth of insurance. For (I think) $135 a year, you can have unlimited towing.

Boat US is the Nation's largest boating club. They have a lobbying staff in Washington DC that lobbies for boaters rights. The Boat US Foundation granted Airboaters a $3000 (2005) grant to teach safe boating (the FAA has dragged it's feet in exercizing the grant) The Foundation also issued the Lake County Airboat Club (http://www.lakeairboatclub.com/philwalterletter.html) an "Honorable Mention" for a National Clean Water award and will have a plug in the July issue of Boat US. (About 100,000 subscribers)

If you join, let them know you are an airboater.

$100.00 per year for tow servise. If you have to use anyone else they will repay you up to 2500.00 per tow! This is cheap insurance and I have had it for over a year now.

I was out 7 miles in the gulf water pump went out about 9 o clock at night called sea tow and they told i was not a member so they was not coming out. they told me to call the coast gaurd. not knocking sea tow.

Maybe if we can get enough airboaters to join Boat US, they will contract with an "Airboat tow" to come get us 3 miles dry.....................

Just a suggestion.........

I explained I had an airboat to them. They said if you use some other company they will pay you back up to 2500.00 per tow. For that you can hire a freaking chopper to drag your boat back. There is no Tow Boat service where I run, so if I get stuck out I have to hire one of the local a-holes to get me and they will nail you for a Grand real quick.

PS: I tow anyone that is broke down for free and if they offer to give me some fuel money that is cool. I would never sink it to a fellow boater.

I can see it now. a new business venture "Swamp Tow"
kinda sounds like ya been runnin' round the yard without yer shoes agin.
I know I've brought in my share of broke down boats...by the way I 've been brought back in a few times too.

we will have to have a base fee of one 12 pack (preferably ice cold) , and depending how far out in the swamp ya are - could be 2 or 3 ........wadaya think guys ?
SWAMP TOW TO THE RESCUE !
.........if your sinkin' were drinkin'

In all seriousness, you can't expect someone to tow your boat if it's not in the water ....... BUT ...... BUT ........

If we could motivate the FAA to negotiate a deal with Boat US or some other company, kind of like a group insurance policy ? Better rates if say 500 of us were willing to sign up ?
Face it folks. All we really want is liability and theft.

I know how it could be done, but I'm testing the water here. Tell me what y'all think.

I wasn't very far out in the gulf,I had been riding the edge of the grass trying to catch a redfish. The problem was,Sea Tow is out of Keaton Beach and I was at the Fenhollaway River, about 16 miles away.It took him about 5 hrs. to get me to the ramp and get back to Keaton Beach.
I agree with the rests of the guys,I've never charged anyone for a tow, except maybe a cold one. There just wasn't anyone around to help me at the moment.

I had a 42 Bertram on the beach after Opal, Sea tow got me off in 4 hrs, My bill was 8000.00, When I called them on it, suddenly it was only 2500.00. They will get you for whatever they think they can get, just crooks in my opinion

Considering the organization, and resources on this forum a lot of times
you might be able to get help without someone like seatow. hook up with
the guys in your area and laminate a card with phone numbers, then
never leave home without it. I'll bet Big Greg will vouch for the organization
and resources on this forum. Might not always work, but it's worth a shot.
A group of like minded folks helping one an other when they can is hard to beat.
PS glad you got her back in ok, that the bottom line
