I like the idea of a single side by side front seat set-up with a triple bench rear it will be on a 15x8 boat. Is their any Pro's or Con's with this set up "like off center weight when running solo. thanks in-advance

welcome to the forum priority 1 not to big a factor on a boat that big unless your 350#'s

Priority, one of the best builders in the business, Paul Dixon up in Bainbridge, GA builds most of his rigging with side by side seats. My old boat has that set-up, and we like it. The imbalance will never be noticed and it's a lot more fun to have the company .... !

I have seen it on maybe a couple of boats. I think it would be handy myself but I am a bit ambidextrous(sp) myself when it comes to feet and hands so left foot right foot right hand left hand wouldn't matter but most say they could never drive from wrong side whatever that is. LOL

I've seen it too, and actually, there's a very practical reason for having a set-up like that. It gives you a chance to take a break sometimes for one, but here's another:

One night Ann and I were gettin' up in the seat, and I sat down over on her side. She looked at me and said, "I can't drive this boat!"

I said to her, "OK, girl friend, here's the scenario. We're up on Jullington Creek, there's nobody around, and I think I'm having a heart
attack. You've got to know how to get us home if that happens."
With the stick in the middle either person could practice, or operate in an emergency.

She did pretty damn good ...... I don't let her drive anymore

Thanks for all the input, I too was kicking around the idea of a right hand steer. Why is it that all boats steer from the left

It's probably because most people are right handed and they can hold their beverage easier! :drunken:

I still say foot steering is the only way to go. Then you can hold your cold beverage in one hand and your gig/gun in the other.

I seen a boat the other day built by outback aka lonnie tucker for a man in a wheel chair tow control sticks left steer right gas. that was a good lookin boat very easy to run.

I've seen them where you could drive form eather side but having the rudder stick on the right side would take some getting use too.

Hey ya'll,

Norm at GTO airboats has this option for center steering on thier new boats. I thought it would be cool until the "toasted" passenger decides "I'll drive for awhile" and grabs the rudder!
