I'm leaning towards Jan 26th. Bill it would be really hard to pull off a gig on Sunday because of package delivery to PO.But we will discuss it.As far as toys for tots most of the local Clubs are doing something I would probably try helping there.

I've got the same truck I hauled the loot to the post office last year with. (me and Mrs. A1Mudpuppy sat at the Mims PO for hours filling out customs forms and address labels)

I'd be happy to do that again.

Last year Bobby from Diamondback VERY GRACIOUSLY handed me his credit card to pay for over $600 worth of postage.

Maybe the customs forms, address labels, and postage can all be set up in advance.

Skeeter - Laura and I are planning on stopping by the Jolly Gator TONIGHT and we'll go over it more. Now that we live just up the road - We're gonna join up with SCAC. :)

By the way, It's not Airboat Operation III LOL  It's OPERATION AIRBOAT III

Dustin has told me that Bob Hoover may have a couple extra boxes of MarshRider magazine. Even though it's an older issue, it'd be great if someone from the inverness area can stop by Bob's and bring those magazines - PERFECT for tossing one into each package! Give the boys some REALLY good reading and let them know it's airboaters who sent the stuff. just an idea.

SORRY but I won't be able to make this one . Thats the ONLY weekend we're able to LEGALLY hunt with the dogs in the local WMA. They only give us a 4 day period every year and it starts on the 23 and ends on the 27. Let me klnow if ya want to borrow the grill ( check with loghman lodge -as I remember they have a small problem with bringing it there cause they serve food ) but ifin someone had another spot to use it that everyone could drive thier boats to say maybe a private boat ramp   .

Now ifin it was the following weekend I could volunteer to cook myself 8) 8) 8)

We'll miss you Rick. But very cool that you have fun at DOG (4 day??) WEEK. That sounds like a blast. Too bad it's so short of a "week".

Skeeter - I picked up a huge pile of the customs forms the other day at the Geneva Post office.
I'll get them ready - Filling in the return address and some other info in advance.
What do we want to use for a return addeess? (as if it matters - we have to check the box that says "if undeliverable treat as abandoned") Should we use SCAC address? I think last year we used the P.O. Box address for Southern Airboat.
We'll put "TO" addresses on them when we get them. Last year, BlackPowderScout used his knowledge and intuition to choose addresses. (I think he picked units that often get overlooked)

I think he chose addresses from this site:
http://www.anysoldier.com/

Also from that site is a list of what to send:

NOTE: One letter I saw on anysoldier.com told about how DVD and CD disks were frequently stolen from the bases and then SOLD BACK to the soldiers. The Colonel who wrote he letter suggested taking a PERMANANT MARKER and writing on BOTH the disk and the package "ANYSOLDIER.COM" to help prevent this activity.

Scroll down near the bottom to find the "WHAT NOT TO SEND" and tips.

Skeeter, when we find boxes - we need to make sure they are not too large. Last year's boxes were too large I think..... Let's make 11x17x12 (the size of a case of paper) be the maximum size. Just my thought there.

Other things that are GREATLY APPRECIATED are pencil/paper (write home kits) phone cards (call home) and LETTERS OF ENCOURAGEMENT (word FROM home)
Last year, Dakota and a few others had their school classrooms write letters that we included one in each box.

Lots of more good ideas here:
http://www.anysoldier.com/WhatToSend.cfm
I especially like that "write home kit" camo notepad. VERY COOL!

I hope this helps.

That's a great list Matt.

One other thing I'd add would be to avoid war movies.......believe me they have plenty of them already.

I always enjoyed getting magazines. KR23 might be able to give you a more current idea as he's been over more recently than me.

I promise you that by this time in a year or so most of you will probably know someone who is deployed from a lot closer to here, so let's try to keep this going. I really do wan't to thank Skeeter, Matt, Loughman's, and all you other's who are helping make this happen again.
