Ok with all the BS with CAT5 going on I would like to change gears here and see where and when we will make the next run. Any one?

we were thinking about skipping sept and just all go to the faa ride down south I beleave on oct 8

cc,

I'll second the motion for skipping Sept. and going right through to October. Wonder if our hurricane season would do the same?

They have been planning a glades ride after the meeting down there, but the conservation areas are closed right now. I think that they are planning for an Okechobee meeting at Okee Tantie as the alternate, if the WMA's are not opened back up.

I'll second, third, or fourth the motion to skip a late Sept ride, for an early Oct ride @ the FAA meeting.
Perfect idea.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but that is smack dab in the middle of archery season here on the HEAVILY HUNTED Kissimmee Chain. I'm not sure how well a large contigent of boats riding through the marsh is going to go over. I will be in the woods myself. I'll see ya'll after hunting season is over!!! :D

well were,s it going to be I,am ready, willing and not sure about able. would like to start making prelimanary arrangements. with hunting season coming and winter setting in this may be the last ride i attend this year

I spoke with Phil Walters today. he said that the FAA meeting is going to be in Polk County. If everyone wants to have the SAO ride here, we need to decide so plans can be made all around. I have thought about it and I'll be there if you do it here. Just know that if the turnout is as big as Melbourne, I suggest that we use seperate launch sites. None of the places here can handle that many boats plus their normal traffic (maybe Thomas Landing but I don't remember how big that place was). We can easily meet at one central location on the lake. I'll be glad to help plan it out.

I like that idea too Adam. There's probably a couple hours difference in road travel time from say Lake Cypress to Thomas Landing for me. I'd rather do the extra traveling in my boat.

Like you mentioned some time ago, I'd also like to be careful not to disturb the bow hunters. I think gator season closes the morning of Oct. 8, so that shouldn't be a problem if some of us stay late.

It was Oct. 8 wasn't it?

As soon as we get a confirmation from Bigdaddy, I'll create the topic in the forum.

Plans are NOT FINAL yet.

One location under consideration is Port Hatchineha. The owners are chewing on the idea right now. If this happens, the FAA meeting will take precedence and the ride will be after - Maybe "Moonlight on the Marsh". Few archers should be about after dark.

Port Hatchineha has about a dozen RV sites and no rental rooms at this time. There are motels on US 27 near Dundee and Haines City.

There are important doings for FAA to deal with. Maybe the most important meeting of FAA yet held. Hopefully, many SAO members are planning to take an active part in shaping the future of airboating in Florida.

Thomas Landings is another possibility. A few seasoned rental units - and RV sites. Its location on Lake Kissimmee makes it a pretty good run for those launching on Cypress and about another hour for those coming from West Central / Citrus / Ocala / Gainesville - but, it sure is a pretty place.

Camp Mack, is a possibility if they do not have too many conflicting bass events scheduled. They are certainly an alternate launch site anyway and they have rental units at about $115.00 / night. Please allow just a day or two to see how the cards fall.

You don't know ME well enough.....JUST KIDDING Mr. Wildlife Officer!!!!

My only thing with the Port is the total LACK of dock space. You know what I mean Dave? It can also get pretty hairy if the weather is rough there too. The idea of meeting at a central place on the lakes would work out good. BS Hill would be easy from Cypress, Camp Mack, or the Port. Thomas Landing is a long ways from anything but it can be done. From the hill you could go into either Gardner and cross the road and go to Kissimmee and back or you could go behind Candler's Point and up to Cypress and over to Gardner. There is lots of good riding but if it is going to be a night ride we MUST HAVE smaller groups with people who know the way leading them.

I agree, Thomas Landing is nice. It has been more than a year since I was there last but it was definitely one of the more airboat friendly places I've been to. But it is a rather lengthy run up to where we ride most times so thats why I don't go there more often. Camp Mack and the Port are closer. But I do encourage everyone to go at least once to Thomas Landing!!!
