Slick bottom

I am getting about 15 hours on FrogSpit slick bottom, is this the norm?
I run alot of dry ground, mostly grass.

I run rivers and shallows, not a lot of dry but some, frog spit usually lasts me one season and have to reapply in winter. You can apply more than one gallon at a time, it takes longer to set up though. I run aluminum hull, have to sand blast to get it to stick good.

Sounds like that is not long.

If you just go ahead with polymer what would it cost?

Thanx, Gben

Stay with the slick bottom, it doesnt last as long as polymer, but slick-bottom is so much better on the hill, polymer heats up and gets sticky. Polymer is good on carmotor boats with reduction or built drives, but my opinion is to say with slick bottom, try differnt kinds and see which one u like best. No one knows how long slick-bottom will last, it all depends on how much you run the ground. I know of a few people around my area who apply them. if you need there name and numbers just ask.

how about that steel flex...is that anygood....we are gettin ready to overhaul my buddy's thruman after about 10 years or running....his brother wants to do poly but is some work...plus we never run the thurman dry.....any opinions??

If your not running dry very much, i'd stick with the epoxy products instead of polymer.

Mostly to save the weight. Polymer does offer some increased strength to the bottom if you hit a minor obstacle.

I like the steelflex cause thats what I'm used too.
They make a super slick expoy that is very close to ploymer in slipperyness, but it's difficult to apply, and make it look nice. No big deal if it's only going on the bottom.

They make a super steelflex that is easier to apply, and looks nicer if your going to have it come up the sides.

Frogspit may be way better, but I've never tried it.

We have a thurman with fasco products on the bottom. A good thick coat will last for several years if the boat is not abused too much.

I just installed a coat of the FASCO Super Slick Steelflex on my cottenmouth and had no problem with it .It goes on real easy just mask off the bottom of your boat mix the epoxy , pour it on the bottem and roll it out.It lays down real nice, make sure you use the shortest napped paint roller you can find.It took just over a half gallon to do my 11'9" boat and it goes on plenty thick.

We have seen some problems with Steelflex around salty water when used on riveted hulls (7075 alloy mainly). Seem to get lots of corrosion and we have tossed every reason from the hull not being primed, the corrosion starting under the Steelflex, to just to much electrolysis in this country. And the Steelflex is a mess to remove when the corrosion is under some of it.

However, everybody in Florida and fresher marshes in Louisiana don't have the problems.

I was told that you can put polymer on scuff it and then coat it with any of those coatings and it will last a while and you have double the protection
