Rick

I would be glad to do the Photography for the magazine sounds like a good idea to me I think they would sell a lot of them and would probably help spread the word about the web sit and Airboating in general

Yea and I bet we could get Waterlizard and Brian Edwards to write for us and I 'm sure many others and Airboat4fun could write poems and all kind of other stuff, and Safari Rick could write about Southern Cooking of Game now all we have to do is get Rick on board.

I know who we could use for a photographer. Hey Sniper my web site is almost done your pic on the river bed is the main photo man I love that shot!

Safari, (Do you mind if I use your first name Mr. Rick?)
That is one of the funniest posts I've read here in a long time!!!!

S/A Rick - if you plan to do this - and need some help, I'm in. Just let me know. I've got some graphics arts skills, I worked for a commercial printer for 15 years.

The magazine business is tough. Hard to make a profit. Witness the last Airboat Mag, and the one before that. Airboaters are a small audience.

But if anyone tries, I'll support it with a subscription, and also with submissions of photos and written contributions, and possibly even as an advertiser as well.

I think it's important to keep this website UNCHANGED though. The thought of a FORUM operated by someone who earns money by direct sales advertising dollars instead of ANYTHING OTHER THAN DONATIONS is something that just don't seem right. Once that advertising money becomes involved, it becomes less of a "free minded" forum, and more of a marketing tool with an ulterior motive.

Best of luck!!! Call if I can get on board the project!!!

matt.

Safari you are too funny and the funny thing that is so true!!!! Hey I am all for it and would advertise and maybe help with some writing or even typing things up. Not much of a picture taker but I will do anything to help. Something to talk about for sure.

Moodfood,Im not a site supporter,YET,so I know my opinion don`t mean much to ya.But that last paragraph should be deleted.I don`t believe Rick would ever be like that.If he did change the site,it would be for something better.Cause if money were an issue I don`t think we would have this site,it`s a lot of work and he never complains 8)

Joe, I know what you mean. But with all due respect, I'm going to leave that opinion. BTW, You are a member so what you say does matter to me and I'm also positive it matters to Rick or anyone else in charge of this site. Site supporter is totally optional. It does not take money to have your opinion listened to around here! :)

Is is that - An opinion. I've stated it here, and in person with Rick and many other friends around here. It's no big deal. I hear all sorts of opinions too. Don't agree with all of them, but gladly listen to them.

I posted it as a personal opinion, and totally intend for it to be taken as an opinion. I fully understand that Rick is the final word on any decisions he makes about his great creation here.... and one great feature he's included is the ability for us to include our opinions. That's pretty cool.

I agree with you that Rick would only change this place for the better, but the opinion about becoming (or appearing) beholden to advertisers is not a taboo or invalid subject. I believe that is the key to this site's success!

:)

This was just a smarta$$ thought that popped in the my mind after looking at an old stack of mags and thinking how nice it would be to have some new ones but that would be just pissing away the cash.

I agree that one great thing about this site and this country is the right to disagree, but far be it from me ifin someone took the bull by the horns and made a MINT By giving the airboat community a decent magazine and actually delivered a full years subscription. Why not make a few $ for your time and effort.

This site is great and yes I like the fact it isn't load with advertising B.S. Just airboaters helping each other. That's the way it is and in my opinion it should stay.

BUT LIKE I SAID IFIN ONLY SOMEONE WOULD GRAB THEM HORNS!!!

Ok, I been looking at this for a while now. I have been looking at the news print style like Shotgun News or Airplane Trader etc. Maybe a biannual slick page photo issue.

DO yall think this would work or do yall wanna see slick page & color photos every issue?

Need a lot of contributors to make it work. Its a very low profit high expense proposition to make it work.

Another thought I had is maybe instead of bulk 3rd class mailing, have all subscriptions sent 1st class mail. Would be more expensive but might help things get where they are going better.

I can even envision that for a price subscriptions could be sent requiring signature and a tracking number. If it dont show just tell the PO what the tracking number is and let them find it like they should.

Just thoughts on solving non delivery items.

What yas think?

Scotty

I think the only reason they were not getting to people is because they were not being sent. If you would actually send out your version I would imagine the delivery/success rate would be much higher.
The type set/newspaper format would lend it self to a great technical forum.Simple pictures and diagrams(like the one you,Whitebear) posted for building an engine stand come out great.I guess eventually you could go to color like Woods & Water.I would love to have something with "meat" in it to read away from the computer.I can envision some great and very helpful real world, fix your own boat, build your own cage, prop-gearbox tests.
Who do I send the check to!!
My preference is a once a month or packed bi-monthly issue. Just $.02 worth from someone who loves stuff in the mail(bills not included).

P.S. IMO Airboat World sucked there was rarely anything of help or substance. Hope I don't offend anyone.

Man I'm glade I didn't pay for a year of advertising with the other guy!

Ah come on Waterthunder , It wouldn't of been wasted money "On the other guy" After all look at all the people that subscribe to the magazine.
 .........

By the way your next issue is your last issue would you like to subscribe for another year................. :D

Well, when I said that months ago, it seemed to piss a few people off, but now I think they have to admit it's true.

The newspaper is written on around an 8th grade reading level. It is informative, is structured in complete thoughts and sentences, and spelling or grammatical errors are rare and purely typographical. It would be nice if there was an airboat periodical that could at the very least live up to those standards. Well-framed, in-focus photos of AIRBOATS would be icing on the cake.

p.s. Please, no pictures of people holding giant goldfish. I have never seen a giant goldfish on an airboat...nor have I ever been on an airboat and seen a giant goldfish!
