As directed by an act of Congress, Confederate Veterans are to be treated with the same dignity & respected as any other US American veteran.............

Now is your chance to support the Veterans Memorial going up at the junction of I-75 & I-4 in Tampa. Prominently featured will be a granite facade with the names of donors ($100 per line) along with the names of Confederate veterans who honorably served their short lived country. This facade will be at the base of a 139' flag pole proudly flying the world's largest Confederate Battle Flag!

You need not be a member of the SCV or have a Confederate ancestor, the only criteria is a love of the South, it's history, heritage, culture, traditions, it's people and a respect for those who stood for their convictions and beliefs in times past.

Sponsored by the General Jubal A. Early camp#556, Sons of Confederate Veterans-Tampa

"To You, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will submit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be defense of the Confederate Soldier's good name, the guardianship of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved, and which made him glorious and which you also can cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations."

Thank you for this post. I hope others of you will show support for this monument also.

As a Daughter of the Confederacy, I am fully supporting this flag monument, and what it represents. I hope that the 360 million vehicles who will pass by this site each year, will hear our message loud and clear! We are proud of our roots, and we will fight long and hard to have the truth told about the history of what our ancestors fought and died for.

At our monthly chapter meeting with the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) camp we had a guest speaker Mr. Ed Hooper, editor of the Camp Gazette who spoke about a great Confederate naval officer, Matthew Fontaine Maury. Aside from Maury's devotion to the cause of the Confederacy, he diligently studied the paths of the sea and how they affected navigation and weather. Many of his scientific discoveries are still being used today! The problem is, that he is not recognized for being the great scientist he was, due to his ties with the Confederacy. The schools have chosen to skip over this part of the great history of the South.

Like our Airboating Heritage, we must take a stance for those things we believe in, and decend from. We must become activists in order to be heard and protect our freedoms. Some topics must be dealt with in public forums as they are too precious to lose! Just as we cannot afford to lose our airboating heritage we must see to it that our Southern Heritage is taught in an accurate and responsible manner to our children and other cultures throughout our nation.
