spamers and hackers

has any body noticed any of the slime balls joining our ranks it seems like were getting a couple a day since we went to this server

10-4 Plum,

I don't know if it's the new server, or just that S/A is getting more attractive to them.

We keep taking out the garbage as fast as we see it. No big deal.

Nobody should click on the links they post, cause that's all they are really after I think.

Cowboy be sure to delete Inga from the Member list and site ban the IP. Were starting to show up on some search engines because of the number of connections were getting I would guess.

You are right, its hit builder folks who charge to guarantee a site huge hits. they spam everything in site to post links. It seems unethical and I hate it, but it does generate massive hits. Doesnt generate much sales though just a lot of hits from folks looking. Just our version of junk mail I guess. At least you could burn junk mail in the wood stove LOL.

Just kill em as they show up is the only solution.

Scotty

I just deleted about 10 users for the day. A lot of them don't activate and some don't post. They only want their links posted in their profile. Most of these are probably what they call spam bots. The ones that actually post are probably real people spamming. I don't know any way of controlling them, except by deleting them when they're caught.

They put the links here for the search engines to find. This site is constantly being crawled by the search engines and they follow every outbound link. The more incoming links your site has, the higher it ranks with most search engines.

I'm gonna be studying a few mods that may help, but as I stated above, it's almost impossible to stop the real people spammers without changing the registration procedure.

Inga is history, thanks Scotty. I haven't started banning ip's yet because of the ones that are shared, but I think I'll start considering that option.

Thanks,
Rick

Got tired of doinbg the indvidual thing. Needed a way to do mass deletion..
Work well every time, and only modifies one file in your admin folder.
You will need to upload too php files to you php admin.

Just realized that the visual confirmation had been unknowingly turned off for the past week or so. That'll help with most of the spam bots.

Thanks Hogheaven. I do use an Admin User list mod to keep unactivated accounts hidden & help with deletions. I like to look at unactivated accounts before I delete them because of the number of activation emails that get blocked by spam filters. If a new account looks legit and does not activate, I send an email and inquire. We've added quite a few members that way.
