spark plugs and gap on a 540

I was wondering what brand of plug and gap other folks were using on the lycoming io540

I am running a 0540 straight valve with 75089 STD pistons 8.5:1. I am running Champion D 16 plugs gaped at .024". Seems to run great, I have 40 hours on the same set with no problems.

Have run both the Champion D-16s and now running the Denso. I was told the Denzo fouled up less when you are burning oil and that is why I tried them out. Cannot say I have seen a difference with that. I have even run one side with Champion and the other Denso, I couldn't tell much difference on which ones stayed cleaner.

One thing I have noted is that the Denso body seems to not rust quite a quickly as Champion and that makes a difference when you are in brackish marsh and less than a mile from the Gulf. (But if you hit each plug with a shot of WD-40 after washing her down good, that keeps the rust at bay too.)

However, I have to ask any of the Auto Parts dealers to overnight order Denso and they always have the D-16s.

They are just under $3.00 each, something like 2.85 I think. Has been about a year since I bought some.

Jurnigan's also sticks them in new engines instead of Champions. I figured he might know something I am missing
