Wednesday, the Fish and COnservation Commission will take what should be the final vote on whether to downlist the manatee. We've only waited about six years for this!
Most of you won't care -- you don't own a kicker boat --but here's why you should:
The environmentalists are trying to force the commission to change its rules - after those rules have been used to downlist the eagle and uplist the gopher -- so there are different rules for the manatee.
In other words, the science doesn't matter -- its' the politics that matter!
The GOvernor has weighed in on their side even though this is an INDEPENDENT commission! He stopped the vote in September.
THe concern we all should have is that if he can make the Commission stop its use of science on the manatee -- he can do it with hunting and fishing management decisions as well!

1. maintain the current criteria which has already been used successfully in September to make listing decisions
2. complete the work they started four years ago, follow the science and vote to downlist.
