Stainless bending question

I want to bend some rudder bars for a stainless cage, and I want to bend them at 45 degreees rather than 90. I'll be using a JD Squared bender

Can anyone walk me through this so I don't waste any stainless steel?

Thanks

most benders have it marked at 45 but from what I have found measure the spot out side to out side and then add 5 " to each so say if you have 80" across cut a 90" piece of pipe and then just measure back 5" on each end and set it with the mark on your bender

You can bend a cheaper piece of something first. When I bent the same thing your talking about I tried it on a scrap piece of conduit. It was only 3-4 feet long but it let me check the bend in referance to my mark, etc. w/o wasting a big piece.
Just a thought.

Red, the only advice I have for stainless is that if you go too far on the initial bend, the metal takes a set and is very resistant to being opened back up again .....
go slow, check your bends, and try not to over-bend the first time.

You can always add a little more to it if you need to, but opening a bend back up is tough. Using some grease on the bender and tube helps to prevent galling.

olf

I know how to get 45 degrees on the bender, it's marked right on it. CC answered my question I think

Conduit is not the same OD as Stainless that's why I didnt just stick a piece of that in there
