Starter Question?

Has anyone had any issues with this set up, it’s snapped the bottom ear off the starter twice

I'm not sure, it's my brother n laws boat. It looks like a good set up, but it does appear to need shims

I believe Dick had some that had reinforced - heavy duty starters. Wasn't this an issues years ago?

The gear mesh looks ok, I was referring to shimming the depth. I just don’t see why it breaks the ear off

It does look good, if kicking back while starting, the pins that the impulse mag fly weights dog into are worn and it is not retarding to start correctly, likely a mag issue, and not a starter or mount.
