Starter Woes

Ok fellers, need some advice. Y'all have never let me down in the past, so don't start now.

I've got a 220 GPU and my starter went out completely. It just sits and spins in the cylinder. My problem is that the guy who built the boat modified the starter to work. He broke off a section and sort of jimmied it into place. Anybody know what starter is usually used on a GPU?

Any info would be appreciated. :(

I have seen a few Dodge truck starters, and mostly Toyota starters for GPU's. On these starters, the bendix (starter drive) sticks out the end of the starter. There is no "nose cone" with a bearing in it like the Delco starters. I think I have seen a Delco on a GPU also, so you can make it work

Bruce in FT McCoy, FLA is the man for AC and GPU accessories. He makes all the brackets you need for starters and alternators, and he even makes some trick looking billet aluminum flywheels and for them too.

Bo,

There's that shop in Mims that you can buy a complete package (starter, alt & flywheel).

Best damn systen I ever used on a 220 gpu.

After getting it on, I never worried again about the starter & alt.

They just alwaysed worked & worked well!!!

Chances are, Bruce makes the stuff they are selling. I can pm you his number if you are interested, but he is a very busy guy. Please only call if you are serious

THanks guys. SHould I try and replace the whole thing or just have this one rebuilt? It's a little weird, but wouldn't replacing the whole thing be mucho $?

It will save you a lot of hassle in the long run. It's so nice to hit the starter button and never have to worry....
