Steal a Boat / Boat Thief

RiverRat

Well-known member
If the thought EVER crosses your mind to steal a boat, consider these things first:

1.) A VERY high percentage of boat thefts are recovered (boat thieves are caught!), so don’t think YOU won’t get caught. Think about how lucky YOU are. Are you an unlucky person? You’ll get caught. Won the lottery? Maybe the odds are in your favor… Probably NOT.
2.) Do you like guns? Steal a boat and when you get caught you very likely won’t ever be able to legally touch one again, ever (comes with the felony conviction). No more pleasure shooting. No more gun hunting. No more personal protection… It follows you for the rest of your life. No cut-off for good behavior.
3.) Every time you apply for a job, it will come up. Think about trying to explain that one for the rest of your life.
4.) Every time somebody else does something wrong, guess who the authorities will think of first. That’s right, you.
5.) Chances are somebody is watching you and you just don’t know it.

This is not like stealing a can of snuff. Think about it. It’s a boat (LARGE object). You will very likely be seen.

I know these as facts from experience. One of my boats was stolen. The theft was witnessed. The police came. The thief was caught, my boat was recovered, and the thief was convicted. That simple.
Don’t take my word, though. Ask around what happens when you get a felony conviction, and how little it takes to get a felony conviction.

I know who the thief is and he will look over his shoulder for the rest of his life that he has now made incredibly miserable, however long or short that miserable life may be.

I think you are preaching to the Choir on this forum. Herebouts an airboat thief may not survive the attempt. Only sometimes do the cops get called. There are people go missing and are never heard of again cause they got caught stealing an airboat.

Do you like guns? Are you kidding me? Nearly ALL airboaters do and keep them handy for just the above reasons. Its legal in Florida.

Scotty

I wasn't directing it at anyone here, Scotty. Surely hope no one took it that way. You guys do have a lot of visitors, though. If only one passer-by needed this sermon, hopefully it will keep somebody's boat in their own yard.
Seems that I've heard more about stolen boats lately than ever. Actually, I had just read the classified about the stolen boat and felt a bit compelled to pull out the soap box for a moment...

Preach it brother, and let the seeds fall where they may.
just remember, the righteous are bold as a lion. and the
boat thieves they're already starting to tremble.

Amen.

Being someone that's had 2 motorcylcles and 1 4-Wheeler stolen on two different occasions, I can vouch for the fact that I consider it a capitol punishment. All I can say in retrospect is I'm kinda glad I never found the SOBs that stole my stuff, cuz I'd probably in jail instead of them.

Typically when I see a first hand report of a stolen airboat here I make it a sticky for a while in hopes of keeping everyone thinking of it and maybe seeing it or a piece of it show up somewhere.

Let the chips fall where they may, indeed.

Rule number 6. Most of us will shoot you until we run out of bullets, just becaused we thought you where going to harm us. :D

Here is a nice little system that works like a champ. It work soff infra red and is a motion sensor. Over the past three yrs it has come in handy. Saved my 2 , 4 wheelers, air compressor, and boat. You can hard mount then or just lay them down or use zip ties.
Check it out,

RWA 300R
PIR 300 R

I have a sensor on my lawn mover, 4 wheelers, boat and inside the shed.
It's easy to set up and each sensor sends a signal to the alert station with no wires.
They say the batteries will last 2 yrs but I change then every yr. One station will support 4 transmitters. It will send a signal over 1000 ft away. I have only used it at about 200 ft. When that beeper goes off, it's time to get serious.

You should make rule #6 rule #1. Thats just the way I see it. I worked hard for my property and I don't mine pumping a guy stealing my $hit , full of "OO" BUCK or pumpkin balls. Also, If the thief survies the shower of lead, he better hope the COPS get there soon, cause I will be doing a tap dance on his chest , face and belly, with my Shit kickers(not clamming boots). I caught a guy braking into my MON's house across the street in the day time, The COPS had never seen a guy that tore up from falling. :)

Had an ole boy try to steal some stuff around my old house I had a 85lb red nose pit I used to keep tyed up on my airboat when we left to go out .To make a long story short the crack head wanted something out of my boat and ended up spending the next 6 hrs with a Pit latched on to his arse . See the dog never barks just catches your arse and holds it . Sure was a funny site pulling up to our house seeing some guy begging us to get the dog off him . We left him hooked up till the sherrif got there the told jypsy to break . Sherrif got a good laugh out of it as well :D

You know the worse part is in todays society if you did catch someone stilling your airboat or buggy and shot them you would probley go to jail for longer than the criminal.

That site makes me sick ! Some of the posts make me puke !

I'd like to see every state a red state on their list. And THAT is as it SHOULD be.

As far as I'm concerned, a thief has no rights. Killem where they stand, sit or hide. I could care less if ya call it murder, execution or just a plain ole fashioned killin, a thief is dead and THAT IS JUSTICE !

Scotty

Now you're talking, Scotty!
At a way to help me out with my deterrence speech.

Git 'em, killer!

This has been law in FL. for some time now, and
I have yet to hear a legit complaint about this law.
If you look inside the front of your American Hunter,
or American Rifleman magazine there are stories
each month from news papers all over this land
of law abiding people saving themselves and others
with the use of legal firearms. I guess what they
would like, would be called: The ,Hope the first shot misses
me so I can shoot back rule.

I was airboating about 2 months ago and was stopped by the Orange County Sherriff, in an airboat, for a "safety check." Everything went well but at the end he asked me if I had any firearms on board. I don't know why he asked me that and I have thought it would be a good idea to have something like that on board. Anyone know why he asked me about firearms? Oh and I didn't have one.
