stinger soft drive gear reduction

possibly making a purchase in the next few days and was looking for some opinions on the units.......any known problems ? does the soft drive really keep it quite ?

MR T ! ITS SURE HELPS THE HARMONICS ! BETWEEN MOTOR AND PROP ! MORE HUSH MORE AT IDLE ! ROTATOR OR STINGER NEVER SEEN ONE BROKE !WELL I DID, BUT THATS ANOTHER THREAD!WASNT THE BOX S FAULT ! JUST GET THE RITE RATIO ! AND STILL THATS ANOTHER THREAD ! THE ROTATOR IS LESS WALLET ! AND THEY ALL COME WITH SOFT DRIVE ! STINGER IS EXTRA FOR SOFT DRIVE OR WAS !

i think the rotator is rated to 1000hp and the stinger i believe you have to get the heavy duty box for more than 500 hp or maybe it is something to do with the softdrive on the stinger.this might not matter unless you have been listening to richard potter.then you would need a high hp box for all of his info on a caddy, i dont think it is in his blood for less than 500hp.

Hey T-Rex I maybe jumping up to the next ratio. If you looking for a Stinger I've got a 2:38 to 1 that I maybe looking to sell. I only used it twice before the New oil pump I installed on my Caddy stop working which wipped out my bottom end (April 1) and I've been down since. PM me if you interested,
It's a standard drive but from what I understand you can purchase the soft drive plate and swap it out. I'm just looking at getting a 2:68 to 1 I don't know what I'm doing yet.

I have a Stinger Soft Drive and I really like it. Its quiet and it keeps the vibrations down @ idle. With that big LS1 cam rumbling I couldn't imagine what it would be like without a soft drive. I would highly recommend a Stinger. I have never owned a Rotator, not that I wouldn't, my boat just came with a Stinger. B4 you make your decision I would take a ride in a boat that had one of each brand to compare the differences. Aren't there more brands of gear reductions than just Stinger and Rotator??

jl242, so at idle can you hear the gears meshing in the box ? i know its not supposed to be harmfull , but does that sound go away with the soft drive ? thanks again guys i appreciate the input.
mudpuppy, thats a real bummer with the oil pump problem. was it a Melling pump ?

I don't hear gears meshing. I know what your refering to also. I have heard Rotators make that sound. What I mostly hear @ idle is prop sound, the rest is the motor with muffled exhaust. Its real quiet. I wish I could goto the quiet boat test. I think I would pass.
