suck pistons suggestions

looking for suggestion to free up two stuck piston so I can pull the jugs. I have two pistons stuck big time (all others are off) I have soaked inside with PB blaster then beat on the jugs with rubber mallet , next soaked both cylinders with coke over night still can't get them free I have a good size pipe wrench I put on the prop shaft plate an next can hang my whole body's weight on it in the air an still will not free up :twisted: then I rigged some plates and hooked up a 120lbs of air to the cylinders but they will not budge
 
Is it stuck from sitting? We have used a hand hydraulic pump with a adapter that fit into the spark plug hole and forced the piston out, Made a mess but worked pretty good.
 
I have used a grease gun to force them out with an adapter that fits the sparkplug hole. Some of the compression tester adapters will work. It will take a lot of grease for that big bore though. A hand grease gun produces very high pressure.

Take and old spark plug, and bust everything out of the threaded base.
Weld a zerk fitting to it, and install it in the cylinder.

Take it down to an adventuresome shop that has a pnuematic grease gun.
Pump that baby up.
That should force it out.

This is what Norman Padgett used to due with stuck cylinders.
He'd clea out the grease, and run'em that night!

If you have two stuck at once,
Loosen the cylinder base nuts on the one under pressure.
Leave the nut loose, but full of stud.
This will let the piston move, with out bending the rods or whatever.
If you don't, you'll be trying to free the second one also though the crank and rods.
That would'nt be good.

I said pneumatic, cause if it's way done in the bore, it will require alot of grease.

The compressed air is not a good idea and it usually will not do it anyway. It's only 120 psi. I forgot to mention to remove the cylinder hold down nuts. That is important. Thanks cowboy. One of those big hand pump grease guns will produce thousand of pounds of pressure and it will not fly apart like it would with compressed air. The air grease gun will work too.

The only thing I can think of preventing the grease from breaking it free is if one of the valves was open when ya tried it. Failing that it might be a ring wleded to the cylinder. Sounds suspicious to me that grease gun wouldn't break it free.

I took up town to the oil change place they hooked up the air grease gun .......and said how much does this thing hold :D pumped until the gun would not do no more. one of the valves was open but I have a plate blocking the outlet off.


I may just have to take this one back and get that older case I broke down the other day was just trying to keep this one since it does not look like it has ever even had oil in the pan
 
Just exactly how did the pistons become stuck in the first place?

The grease gun idea seemed plausable: Bulldozers use a grease filled cylinder on each side to adjust & tension the track, so there IS a lot of pressure! (and a handheld greasegun is used to adjust them)
 
Have you pulled your rockers arms off yet. that will take the pressure off your valves and hopefully they will close all the way.
 
I have done may of tracks with a hand grease gun :D

the packing's in the adjustment cylinders are far different then the rings on a piston but figured it still should have worked , heck normally soaking over night in coke cola frees most anything up. it was sitting outside and did get rain water into the intake so I assume it just rusted or froze there but I don't know for sure if I can get it off the cylinders go back to him anyway I have 550 stuff coming to go in that case

for those who want to know it takes 6 tubes of grease in a 220 cylinder to get the is to down far enough to get the pin out :thumbright:
 
goldhunter_2 did you get a 220 taught you had 150 converted to angle or did you have that boat awhile ago

the four cylinder is on my current boat the 220 case is for the 550 I am trying to build for a new boat once I find it something like a wide stossel about 14' if not I'll being building one but figured I would stat with the motor since that was the hardest thing for me to do.

yep like I said I was wrong it worked on these cylinders to , there may not be as old as that Indian Chief or Studebaker but they where sure stuck and it did work you where right :notworthy: :notworthy:
