Friday night in the grass through the belt 500 caddy put it back on ran it threw it again this time went threw prop... Got another belt of a caddy guy doin some froggin at least tryin to do some froggin didnt have a single frog in his sack.. to his defense I saw one all night. anyhow whats a jerry rig that will work as a replacement just to go around the crank and water pump. I tried power pro I tried rope problem was with the rope the knots were to big powerpro kept slippin or breakin. Took me 7 hours to get towed back. Any Suggestions? Ive since fixed the problem and ran Okee Sat Night. Just for future reference theres got to be a quick fix!

when i ran a caddy i always had 3-4 spare belts, had the same problem sometimes, belts are cheap.

A pair of panty hose will get you home.It works on a car.Don't see why it wouldn't on the caddy

I always carried spare belts when I was running the big Buick boats. Secondly we cooled that big beast with a small (Ford Pinto) size or smaller radiator mounted above the engine and close to the prop by some standards. There are some pictures in my gallery here on SA, take a look. Or on my personal web server at: http://www.ursinecom.com/gallery2/main. ... itemId=527

Location is a trade off. It will cool by convection with no belt, but it will run hotter. Night time ops are usually no sweat if ya throw a belt, daytime is more iffy but I have thrown one and never ran hot running on a plane back to the hill.

The perceived drawbacks to this are that you are putting weigh higher up in the boat. On our hard chined boats it didn't make much difference but on round chined boats I envision it could add to the propensity to roll in deep water and slow speed.

Some claim also that the bigger radiator cools better in the bottom of the boat, adds to a lower center of gravity and the prop can push better without the radiator sitting up above the engine.

Anything other than carrying spare belts will be a tradeoff. I suppose ya could get an aircraft engine.......... LOL !

i always carry a spare with my caddy have not slung one off yet but i am trying to be prepared.my advice would be if the belt was bought at a discout, autozone or pep boys make it your spare and buy a good belt from napa or carquest.they do not stretch as bad as the cheep belts they are 8 or 9 dollars more but quality wise last longer.

Carry bunches of spares. It's what I do, I check my belt inventory before I leave the house and don't go to the river unless I have atleast 2 spares.

O540 lycoming....magnetos....manual fuel pump....can hand start...
as long as I don't need lights, I'm good to go with no belts, forever :D

Good thinkin PANTYHOSE AND ZIP TIES thanks Ive got extra belts now. Lesson learned the HARD WAY! DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT i HAVENT SEEN NOTHIN IN THE WAY OF FROGS, EVERGLADES OR OKEECHOBEE?
