SUPER CHARGE 540

Fuel injected hemi head 0-540, airdeck , flowded cylinders 10 to 1 compression......on a Chuck Hawk step hull ,carbon fiber kevlar....I went with lighter hull, natural asperated engine.......
dont get me wrong,,those superchageres work, but on an airboat, at sea level where its hot.....your at the edge of the envelope. A stock GSO-0540 is rated at 385 hp, at 10,000 feet....If the guy put flat top forged pistons,,,,400+

To quote Thunder, "You maybe driving it with your Right foot and not your hand. In Thunder's case his foot's pretty big. :D

DAVIE ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR CURRENT BOAT. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU MISS ABOUT YOUR OTHER BOAT?

Ask Jr what he think about those super charged o540's. They just are not made to run at sea level and to run hard.
I like the hull. Is it new? How far back in your wallet did you have to reach? I will be building a rig about 13x8 with the straight valve 0540. You have really made some good choices so far. Hal

I don't normally post about a/c boats ... be careful ... very careful with that grass rake on there. When it starts to lift on you gently very gently bring the bow around a little sideways to get the lift off of it before you let off the throttle. notice I didn't say ... if ... I said when. Don't worry you'll know if you did it right because you will still be in the seat although it may be a little slippery there. Have fun be careful smooth and steady very smooth and staedy. oh yeah I been there done that already quite a few times sucessfully everytime.

THANKS FOR THE GOOD ADVICE ON THE RAKE, I HAVE PEFORATED RAKE ON THIS HULL. HOPEFULLY THAT WON'T HAPPEN TO OFTEN.

In all honesty there are two way's people usually make boats fast. The aircraft guy's number one concern is weight and hull, the car motor guy's concern is Horsepower and hull. I can tell you this from seeing it time and time again. The light loose hull is the most dangerous they can run right a hundred times and one day a little breeze or ripple in the water and next thing you know your swimming for you life. Anyway back to my point the hull that has killed more people then any other is the light deck over with a grass rake. A supercharged motor on a deck over hull with a grass rake will fly. I have yet to meet somebody who said I knew it would fly it's always "I run it a hundred times before with no problem" Grass rakes on fast boats kill people. Most of the Palm Beaches have a lot of rake in the bow or allot of frontal area that creates lift they run great because of this but at high speeds when you have more lift then down force and you become a wing. If you want a ride boat they are perfect but never run one WOT for over 300 to 400ft.

THANKS THUNDER, I NOT PLANNING TO RACE THAT BOAT. I DON'T CARE WHO TRIES TO EGG ME ON... IT'S LIKE MY TRUCK, '98 STEP SIDE FORD WITH 38X15.5X15 BOGGERS. PEOPLE TRY TO GET ME TO GO MUDDIN ALL THE TIME. I JUST SAY "THAT TRUCK LOOKS GOOD AND RUNS GREAT AND IT'S GOING TO STAY THAT WAY!"

Have you considered one of Thunder's LS-1 engines? Lighter and probably as powerfull and you can get parts from your local NAPA.

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE ONE OF THUNDER SET UP. FOR A NUMBER OF REASON. BUT THE BOAT I'M BUYING IS ALREADY BUILT AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT.

hmgm123, I have alot of questions about your boat. I will be back in Melbourne next week. I like the PB style hull and I will be starting a boat this summer. My email is divingidc@yahoo.com and my cell is 321-388-8877. I would like to talk to you, Hal

For the money you are going to spend in AVgas you might have bought one of Thunders LS1's or maybe even a LS6. I was in the process of rebuilding a supercharged 0540. I listened to everyone that had advice and I ended up selling the motor and getting one of Thunders LS1 engines. I am so glad I did. PLEASE weigh your options B4 you buy this boat. Unless he is going to give you the boat, you might want to reconsider your options. Listen to what the people on this thread are telling you. There is going to come a place and time in which you WILL be tempted to run that boat @ WOT, its human nature to test things and to push the limits of our own exsistence. I have scraped many a bold youth & seasoned veterans off the highways and waterways of Central Florida. Everyone on this forum has experience and expertise in their own area of knowledge. PLEASE listen to what they are telling you.

Those superchargers are some BAD-A** motors.. Theyre good motors, but if you run it hard all the time, you will be putting a new set of cylinders on it. Make Sure you keep it in tune, and run the best of the best oil, gas, etc. i think it will make for one bad boat!

Hmgm123,
I say go for it.
Sounds like you know what your doing, what you want, and what to expect.

Sounds like you do the kinda airboating you want to do. I'd stick with that.

It'll be one bad ride boat.

What prop are you gonna go with?

THANKS GUYS FOR THE GOOD ADVICE. LIKE I SAID I WOULD LOVE TO DO ONE OF THUNDERS SET UP. BUT THE PRICE I GETTING THIS BOAT FOR I GOING TO RUN IT AND SEE HOW I LIKE IT. IF I DON'T LIKE IT I'LL
EITHER CHANGE IT OR SELL IT. I THINK I CAN MAKE AN EASY TURN AROUND ON MY MONEY. I BOUGHT IT TODAY AND I WILL TAKE PICS TOMMORROW OF IT. COWBOY THE PROP IS AN 80" MAXIMUS SERIES. EVERYTHING HAS LESS THAN 4 HOURS. ONLY THING IS THE GUY HAD A MAGIC TILT TRAILER BUILT FOR IT AND NEVER PAINTED IT OR SET IT UP FOR THE BOAT. HE USED ANOTHER TRAILER. SO I NEED TO FIND SOMEONE TO SAND BLAST IT IN THE ROCKLEDGE AREA. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I THINKING OF RINO LINER FOR THE TRAILER.

THANKS
GEOFF

Chipper sandblasted & primed mine years ago, don't know if he still does it since thy got into powdercoating, but it held up real well.
