Super Snapper Prop Question

Has anyone had any experience with the Whirl Wind Super Snapper 3-blade prop? Thinking about getting a new prop for my DD Caddy and want something that will be quiet and push HARD. I don't care how fast it goes but would like to run dry better. I have tried the Sensenich Q blade (which worked great) but it is my dad's prop and he asked for it back. I would like 2 different brands of props and we will switch back and forth and leave them where they work the best. Any other suggestions on props would be great. Again not looking for speed, looking for low end push to not get stuck as easy.

Dont know if this will help but I put a 68" SS 2 blade on my boat and it now pushes alot harder. More power throughout the power band. I currently have the prop set at 2700 RPM. My old prop was a 68 x 34 stick prop turning at 2750 RPM.
 
how you doing i have 68in threeblade super snaper on my 220 buddy of mine sware up and down that i was going to short but i got it any ways and he drove it last week and he told me that it pushed better than his 72in senc and its
 
What diameter are going to go with. I am also think of going with a 3 blade SS, running a 18 x 8 455 olds DD. Hope to get some feed back to help with our decission.

Two ways to look at it. But this is not a fact - just something that many seem to have noticed.

First it seems that longer propellers produce more thrust at lower RPMs and especially at the same RPMs as a smaller prop. Since the are grabbing more air at the same RPMs. However, since the circle the longer propeller is larger, the propeller tips must go faster than a shorter propeller at the same RPMs. Tips speed increases sound levels - or noise as some refer to it.

Shorter propellers allow more snap - the speed which the prop goes from idle to getting the boat moving and typically will allow faster acceleration or better responsiveness to the throttle.

A third blade produces more thrust as well but reduces snap.

Or at least this is my opinion.
 
When I was in the market for a new propeller I was told by people in the airboat propeller business that a 2 blade prop pushes better than a 3 blade prop.

Is that true?

I don't see how that could be true...at least thrust wise. It may be snappier but if you have 2-72" blades vs 3-72" blades, the 3 blades would HAVE to push more air. It may be slower to spin up though. Once you start getting into different sizes maybe...i.e. a 3 blade 68" might not push as good as a 2 blade 80". I have not done any tests though so this is all conjecture on my part.

I can only post from experience but three blades definately pushed my boat better at less rpm's. Just my .02

Bob Wemer in Valley sells the whirl wind, more than likely if he has it in stock he would be willing to let you try one and see how you like it before you spend your money.

I have sent several people to Bob, he is a great guy.

If you were satisfied with the sensenich prop why would you want to go to a different one. Is it a cost factor. Have you compared any prices? If so, what is the difference between the two. I just got a price on a 73" sensenich narrow blade and price came in at 2990.00 cnd dollars. Also got a price on a 72" whirlwind AB300 for 2600.00 cdn dollars. This was from canadian dealers I think I could get a better price if I bought either prop in the U.S. and got it shipped up to Canada. One last thing whirlwind dealer thought the super snapper would be too much prop for our 455 olds on our 18x8 airgator, thats why he priced out the AB300 can any one verify this?? I think a 500 Caddy, might have a little more torgue them our 455, but didn't think there was that much difference between the two. (Getting more confused every day.) Seems like buying a new prop is like buying a new car, everyone has there own opinion on the subject and that only leads me to believe that there is NO clear cut winner in the (BEST PROP) topic and it just come down to preference.

Dear totally confused: you are justified in your confusion. It is my firm beleif that the only place the prop manufacturers test their props for thrust is in a computer. Now I know someone is gonna take offense at that and start yellin about so and so prop make did this or that and my answer in advance is post the numbers if you have them. There will come a time in the near future when information will be available that is being gathered by other than prop makers but it isn't ready yet but soon.

So if you wnat to wait it may be of help if not I would suggest borrowing a prop from someone and test it on your boat and then buy one if you like it.
 
i thought about switching to a three blade for my dd caddy had a 74inch 2blade powershift was verry happy with the push it gave me,but instead sold my old prop old cage and put a gearbox and a three blade 78inch prop on my boat and it pushes like a mother now.
 
Cntry, I think that's an important post. Thank you, and I agree .... if you're a prop manufacturer and you want to sell a few of them, set up a dyno in your shop, spin up the thing and give me some numbers. Better than that, give me some numbers from your competitors props also and then let me decide.

just to add to my post buy the time i sold my old prop and cage and did mod work on riggin and got prop and a good used gearbox i had less than three grand in the conversion.not much more than a new three blade prop.but could not use my boat for about two months but worth every penny.
 
This topic alway's peek's my intrest because i don't understand why the manufacturer's don't make these number's available i understand that the can't test every configuration but you would think this would be some good general info to help select a prop. for example were the rpop makes the most efficient thrust and were the thrust start's to fall off would be great in determining what will work with your'e combo and rpm. just thinkin out loud

I would definetly do that. My problem is that I have the only airboat in these parts therefore no props around to borrow. Am seriously considering taking a trip down South just to check out some of your awesome airboat you guys have out there and do some prop testing for myself. Only thing I'm affaid of is that once I see an airboat with a gear box and some kick ass prop I'll just have to get me one of those and we'll have to break the bank AGAIN!!!. I think a gear box is in the future. A word of CAUTION airboating is extremely contageous. A couple of buddies and I just got this airboat to do a little moose hunting in the fall. Initial investment 6000.00 And after a few modification, New engine, polymer, sand blast and repaint rigging, complete instrument panel, two electric trolling motors and an extra 10,000.00 she's looking pretty good. Only thing left is a prop or prop and gear box. The main reason that we want to hold off on the gear box is that it would mean another engine upgrade. For now going to go with just a prop. WHO EVER READS THIS POST. IF YOUR RUNNING A DD BIG BLOCK LET US ALL KNOW WHAT KIND OF PROP YOUR RUNNING OR BETTER YET WHAT KIND OF PROP YOU WISH YOU WERE RUNNING.

if i would have put more thinking into my boat instead of hurrying my boat to get in the water i probably would have used a 3 blade 70inch cypress series powershift prop for my dd caddy instead of the 2 blade 74inch signature.
 
Hey swampdonkey, if you want to ride on a boat with a lot of snap find a 16 or 18 foot panther with a 572 counter rotator. Yes it does break the bank but it flat ass hauls.

Yes thats what were looking for. If were not satisfied with our new prop will sell it on ebay and go for the gusteo. ( Gave that spelling my best shot )
 
Hey Tim

After I sent off my post it occured to me. I don"t think you can by a counter rotator alone you have to buy the complete boat. Am I correct or are you able to buy the counter rotator seperately. If so would you know how much they cost.
