Supertrapp Installation

Happy New Year to everyone. Haven't had much time to airboat lately, but have really got the bug and need to get out. Fact is, it's been so long that I haven't even installed my mufflers yet.

After reading about it on southernairboat, and seeing Don Kirk's setup, I bought the Supertrapps for my 220 GPU. Got the extra disk pack, so I'll be running 16 disks in each side.

I don't guess I thought much about it, but I assumed that the Supertrapps would slide right over my transom dumps. Apparently not, as they're both 2.5-inch OD. Am I going to be okay using the band clamps, or am I tempting fate? Any other ideas?

Thanks

Doc

Doc, take em to a good muffler shop and they can put em on a mandrel and expand them just a little so they'll slip on.

I had to do that with the inlet side of my mufflers so that the flex pipe would slip into em.

Here is how we do it when we don't want the flex pipe. This boat is just to nice to ruin it with flex pipe.

supertraps right off the header, looks to easy to be true, any drawbacks, would be great to be rid of the flex

Mike that is a super idea ! I may just do that same thing on my 200 Lycoming. Eliminate all fex.

Ok, now I got something to look forward to modifying. Love it !

does supertrap make a 3 in adapter or do you weld the disk holder on, also would it do any harm to switch my angle valve over?

I have the Supertraps on my Boat like Harvey does but I also have mufflers took mine to a muffler shop and had them open them up so they would slip over the 3 in tail pipe

Yes the Supertrapp mufflers are avaliable in 2.5" or 3" inlet. They are the 5" mufflers. The only problem with the supertrapps is that the outer housing and the adapter piece is black painted steel. The diffuser disks inside are Stainless. After welding the adapters to the header, I had the headers and the outer "bell" ceramic coated to keep them from rusting. I learned something though. The next set I did I welded stainless flanges to the headers and I welded a stainless flange to the Supertrapp adapter. Now I can remove or replace the entire muffler and replace the steel pieces as they rust. I will never have to screw up the coated headers again.
