supertraps on a IO540

I finally got around to trying my supertraps, I have to say I wish I would have tried them years ago. they cut the noise down probably 70% at idle and 30% on the fly. I am running a warp drive. Also I ran with and without the mufflers and am not losing any rpm, also cannot tell any drop or increase in power.

Cool beans, I'm putting on some Dyno techs on my boat this week, I'm getting ready for the man we comes around.

mwood,

That's good news. You as well Davie GSO480
Talked to several folks at the show last weekend who were concerned with the loss of ponies on the aircraft engines when muffled.

ALL aircraft engines have mufflers when they're on airplanes, folks. You've just got to pay attention to not put on a pair that's too small because they're big inch, long stroke motors and they pump a LOT of air.

Think of it this way .... an 0540 Lycoming pumps more air every revolution than a 502 BB Chevy. Big mufflers make horsepower.

I used the 5'' disk's first off, and 3'' inlet pipe. With supertrapp you can add disks. Currently I have 20 in each side. They come with 12. The web page said at 20 disks is the same as open headers, as far as back pressure goes. My motor is quieter for sure. I power coated the unit same as my headers. So far So good.

Here's my Supertrapps. I run 18 discs on each side. They work great.

To be honest with you the aircrafts don't flow more air. Here is the truth an O-540 maxed out turning 3,500RPM moves way less air than a 502 turning 6,000RPM.
