The war over there is a source of political division here at home. We may not agree and do not have to agree with what our nations leaders are doing there. HOWEVER ... we must support our troops and take time to thank them for their job no matter how we feel about the war.

So take a moment from your busy day and say thanks.

thanks Country, i have always prided myself as a good American. My wife and I firmly believe in God and Country. Since sending our only son off to the Marine Corps Aug. 6th these messages mean more to us every day

Thanks Cntry, I to have just sent my only son off to the Air Force recently. He will be deployed to Iraq Jan 7th.

Bandit....Skeeter....send lots of letters!!!! That's pretty much what got me through all my deployments and anybody else whose ever been deployed on here will say the same. Nothing beats a letter from the folks when it comes to taking your mind off all the "fun" your having. It's wierd but you can smell home when you read it because it is such a strange smell....

it true eveytime my wife sends a letter i can smell her. its nice for that one moment in time to have somthing from home. its hard work but if it wasn't for good americans like your familiy members it wouldn't get done. take it from someone who knows all to well your children are in good hands. thank you and thank them.

Bandit,
Skeeter,

Godspeed to your sons :angel10: 3rd generation veteran I am and very proud of it!

As BPS said the letters really do mean a lot and make just another h@ll day over there tolerable to even the bravest of hearts.

Mail is the safety rope that ties the kids in uniform back to the homeland. It is everything.

Something parents of servicemen and women can do is to have newspaper notices about their sons and daughters published. All newspapers have a section for our folks in uniform. Be sure to send copies to your sons and daughters and always let them know how proud you are of them.

When I was a young sailor, it wasn't a popular thing to join up but for me it was the right thing to do. We must never again let our sons and daughters return to a homeland that despises them. Respect is the single thing that servicemen and wemen earn in spades. They do a job with little thanks and few perks compared to earlier years of my era. I constantly pat them on the back and let them know how great they are. I see them all, every branch, officer and enlisted and family and hometown approval is a HUGE part of their life. These kids can endure nearly anything the enemy can dish out but they can not endure family indifference.

I say this because of the way they hang on to us grumpy old contractors. We support them and they know were here to help. They crave approval and they ALL know and have heard how it was for our genration, and they have a hidden fear the country will turn on them the same way. Were the voice of reason at times and were the ones who get to hear the complaints and fears that parents would have heard at home. Every one of them wants to do a good job and its hugely important that they be told they are doing a good job by friends and family not just us that are out here lending a helping hand. Tell them big and tell them often.

Y'all are right about the smell of a letter. That's pretty amazing when you think about it, but it's absolutely true.

Whenever I see a member of our military out in public I always try to shake their hand and thank them for their service to us. Little things can mean a lot to someone far from home.
