MOOD YOU CAN DO THAT I HAVE SEEN IT DONE. YOU ALSO CAN MOUNT THEM LIGHTS AND THE TAG ON A BOARD WHICH YOU CAN CLAMP TO THE BOAT WHEN ITS ON THE TRAILER. YOU ALSO CAN JUST PUT A LIGHT ON THE FENDER AND THEN IT WOULD BE LEGAL. I NEED TO FIX MINE ALSO.

We had problems a whlie ago with people stealing tags off the Alley so I mount my tag inside the cage on the wire, nice and high and visable. Was pulled over once and cop tried saying I didn't have a tag until i pointed it out to him.

Mood, Bolting the tag to your boat would mean that the BOAT it tagged. The trailer is what it to be tagged. Mounting your tag vertical is accepted as long as it is lighted . I've had mine mounted that way since day one and during a roadside inspection was told it looked great. Use submersible lights and mount it directly under it just vertical. Or if your lights are low, mount the tag above the lights with its own light.
