The excessive oil pressure problem has gone away

Last year when I bought this boat with a PE90 it would peg a 200psi gauge when started and stayed high until ot was throughly warmed up.
A while back I posted a question asking what the valve in the back of the engine was for, which was to do with opening/closing a dampner and that it could be "plugged off"
Well I gutted the valve and tapped the hole where the shaft came out then re-installed it. Now the oil pressure is ~65psi cold and ~30 at hot idle.
Later I read something that indicated that the two holes in the case that fed and returned oil were the ones to be plugged, so I'm not sure which is right. Whichever the case it seems to be working normally now.
I am thinking about opening the hole up to 1/2"NPT and installing a mechanical tempature gauge for the oil....what say you?
