The Port is closed...

The new owners have closed the ramp down at Hatchineah...I do not know why but it sure left alot of us with a long ride to get in the drink. Chain of Lakes has started a petition to have it reopened so if your in the area stop by and sign it...

The port closed because, some DUMB IDIOTS were breaking into the lok-box where you deposit your ramp fee, and stealing all his money.. Smart thing to do would of been to built a better lock box. But word is he is saling member ships 200.00 a year to use the boat ramp. Also heard hes suppose to open the resturant and bar back up. Who knows? The Port never works! Im use to it now.. Its closed one week, and open the next. Well see what happens?

Patsy Russell announced today that annual vessel launch passes to Port Hatchineha launch ramp are available @ $200.00 per year plus tax. Public use of the ramp was haulted due to repeated vandalism and airboater abuses such as dry loading late at night. Applicants will be screened and any permit holder violating a launch ramp rule will have their permit priviledges revoked.

A little expensive but a price paid by all. At least airboats aren't banned from using the launch.

It may weed out the abusers. Personally I'll either go someplace else or not go out if I have to wet load the boat. Power/dry loading is the correct and proper way to load an airboat.

I'm not saying he is wrong, Im saying "I" will go someplace else if it comes to my neck of the woods. I am nowhere near this facility so it really isnt an issue with me. Obviously the property is HIS and he can do as he pleases with it with no explanation to anyone. Its also obvious his priority isnt doing it right, its keeping the peace. Sometimes they do not go hand in hand. Fine by me.

I hate a thief beyond all belief. We all pay for their stupidity. Most folks and even businesses will give ya more then ya can ever steal from them anyway.

Isn't it kinda silly not to go airboating because you can't dry load your airboat. Just adapt for what the area calls for. If you are in the middle of nowhere by all means dry load that bad boy. If people or houses are around and those people do not want to hear the beautiful sound of your airboat being dry loaded then wet load it. I think the airboat code of ethics mentiones something like this. If the owner of that boat ramp says no dry loading then wet load it. To me dry loading vs wet loading is no big deal.

Rdm, you and I agree on that, and wet loading is actually easier on your boat.
Shove the trailer in deep, hook up the bow safety chain and pull out. Finish hookin things up in the turnaround area.
Local folks will never even know you were there.

I used to have aq kicker boat too, and I replaced the bearings 5 times to every greasing on my airboat trailer.

Wet loading/unloading, especially after a bit of a road trip, is just asking for bearing failure. I've had buddy hubs, greased with waterproof grease, you name it. If it goes submerged when its warm it sucks water AND condenses inside. Any long term boater knows this. Its nothing to me as long as you want to its your boat and trailer.

My only point was "I" will go elsewhere where "I" dont have to put "MY" trailer in the water. I think this satisfies the Airboaters Creed.

#5 asterick on State of Florida Airboaters Code of Ethics.

* Operate at a slow speed on or near boat ramps and move away an adequate distance before powering up, and where possible no power loading.

WB I fully understand what you are saying but in todays times that is not always an option. If and when I can, I choose the least contraversial landing. Sometimes I don't have a choice as I am attempting to assist someone in need. I guess that is why I drive an average of two hours one way just to run my airboat. The county I live in has 27 freshwater lakes in it and I only run 1 on rare occasions. Maybe it's because of the rumored BBQ....oink oink! :D :D

Fortunately the landings I use at home are not near any developement whatsoever. I think there is ONE on Lake Washington that has houses down the road. I never go there though.

I try to be as easy on my equipment as possible. I don't like to winch the boat up on the trailer and I don't like putting the trailer in the water. I guess in an unavoidable situation I would in fact wet load but only if I can't go anywhere else.

I have closed access on personal properties I can use if the ramps decide to buy into wet loading only. Its really not much of an issue with me right now on my home turf.

When I'm a guest I will, of course, conduct myself as a guest. I'm animate about things but I'm not a a$$ about it, and I don't create problems and make a big show in public, I quietly move on.

Sorry of thats offensive to some, but it IS the way it is.

Scotty

Not offensive to me and I understand the thinking. There are a lot of airboaters that contend with the rough road conditions to Thomas Landing just to avoid the hassle of wet loading. It is nice to pull up on the trailer and leave at the end of the day! :D

Whitebear,

Port Hatchineha has suffered at the pleasure of inconsiderate airboaters for quite a while. Their launch fee lock box has been destroyed many times. Some airboaters who use the Port don't spend another dime there.....The campers parked all over that place spend money all day. There is a group of airboaters - it is likely just a coincidence that the trashed out portions of the marsh are close by - that seems intent on waking everyone in the development that the Port is a part of, every time they leave very late at night.

There are few public launch sites on the Great Kissimmee Marsh. Only Thomas Landings allows dry loading. The new Shady Oaks Airboat Park is perfect for dry loading and has few neighbors at present. Bet here is to enjoy dry loading when you can - without making all of us another vocal enemy - because it's only a matter of time.........
