Thinking of using a mopar big block.

Talked to J.C. Stanley the other day, (yeh he's a mopar guy too!) Mopar bb can be done BUT -Must use belt or gear drive. Also, most people dont know you can use a 440 crank in a 400 block (must be align bored to fit larger journals) to get 488 cubes. neat huh! Must use custom pistons with wrst pin moved up due to extra stroke length. they are available (last checked) for about $500. Must also use adapter-plates on drive. Yeh, custom this and that, BUT SOMEDAY!!!

I have owned two GPU boats. You know the saying you gota start somewhere! Looking back I could never own another one but hey I learned allot from driving a boat that made no power. After you learn how and what to run you can make boats go places that less experienced people can't we all need stepping stones.

All Gator wanted was the likelyhood of using his motor. How did we get into the flat motor VS Vmotor debate  ? Gator, put a box on it and beat them all!!!!

Well boys it all a matter of what you like. My self don't think anyone in
this world can run fast enuff ,to give me a airplane or a gpu boat. I don't
need any more more junk in the yard. I take me CAR MOTOR boat anyday. I can run dry if I wish. Or I can run all night long froggin.
There is my 2 cent.

thank you,

( FORD on my boat anyday )

Plain and simple, a motor is a motor, if it runs and gets you from point a, to point b, and your happy with it, then thats great... Aircraft Boats, and Car-motor boats at both airboats!!!! Nether one is cheap, so if you like aircrafts stay with the aircraft, if you like car motors stay with the car motors, if you cant choose, hit the LOTTO and buy a carmotor and an aircraft boat!! That may solve the problem!

Wow, who woulda thought a little question like that would light a fire under everyones ass? Thanks for all the comments, as abstract as they may be.

Torque should be measured at the final destination/force aplied to move said vehicle. (AKA Prop, tire contact etc). Flywheel TQ is meaningless. Low RPM engines have very little ability to make big HP unless they are forced induction or LARGE displacement. Either way it comes down to work done/HP AT THE PROP and the weight/friction that has to be overcome.

So with that being said.....I think a 0540 with heads that have the ports of the heads made on a drill press should own the world. After all....It's aircraft designed in the 30s and 40s...How can it get any better?

I know the belt drives that I have installed are twice as heavy as a rotator gearbox. They must have really lightened them up. Did you put the new CH-3 on a scale? I know the old Franklin belt drive main hub almost weighed as much as my hole rotator. Your right Felber to make even more horsepower I'm looking for some small block Chevy heads that are pre 1955 but I can't find any. I'm sure a 1940 SBC head is superior to anything from this millennium.

The proof is right there on there site. I have never put one on a scale but i have installed enough of them by hand to know they don't weight 250lbs. i can't even hold 200lbs agains my chest long enough to start the bolts.

With the advent of the aluminum LS-1 airboat installation at 499 pounds (complete) and over 500 hp that outperforms most of the 6 and 8 cylinder car and airplane engines don't you think? So now the iron engines are old technology too. All it takes is money.
