Silent Prop
R. I. P.
Well I finally got the boat back together.New 2.38 stinger.New Master Blaster prop.Changed the cam.Installed a new larger carburator. Was now ready to go test.Rain or shine I was headed to the water today.Put in at camp mack.Started down the canel hadn't been up on a plane more then 1/4 mile. All of a sudden I felt like I was back in nam.BANG,BANG,BANG,BANG.I was looking for who ever was shooting at me.Got stopped.Shut down the engine and turned around it look like a pin ball machine inside my cage. What ever went into my NEW PROP didn't want to leave.I have counted 4 places on the cage where what ever it was it just kept coming back for more. There are pictures in my gallery.Showing the blade and cage.It just wouldn't leave. It would hit the cage and come right back to the NEW PROP.4 times. Its a amazing how much damage can happen in 3 or 4 seconds.Well turned around an slowly went back to camp mack and loaded my boat up and tucked my tail and went home.I'll send the props back to Whirl Wind on Monday and I will start this again another day.Bob

Now that just SUCKS
Did you find out what when thru the prop? Looks like it might have been a 1/2 inch wrench. (I guess I shouldnt joke about it)
I hope you can have it up and going for the SA 2008 party. Glad everyone is ok.
Tim

SORRY BOB ! NOW YOU KNOW IT HAPPENS FAST ! THINK ON THE GOOD SIDE .YOU COULD BE STILL THERE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CANAL ! THAT CANAL HAS TOOK A FEW !

With car motor boats I have seen so many times where somebody left wrenches on the radiator. I have done it myself. Every time I have worked on a boat I look on top of the radiator and air cleaner before I start it! Sorry to hear about your luck. I just tore up a prop from a gas cap my luck I was turning the prop about .9 mach when it happened! 3 blades and 3 holes in the boat!

I'm one of the two this week and certainly sympathize with you. Just remember she got you back home safe. Gotta luv them carbon blades.

No holes in the hull? Something that big must have made a heck of a racket?

Hope you win the lottery.

All I know is that the jackass who penned that cute little bumpersticker "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work" damned sure wasn't a fisherman.

Nomad,

Have you identified the culprit yet and what are the chances of a quick and complete recovery? Wishin' you good luck on this one.

i saw my buddy crank up his dd sbc at camp mack one day and he had left a ratchet and socket on the motor and when he gave er a lil gas the ratchet caught the prop and made a perfect imprint in the side of the boat and the socket must have went up a couple hundred feet in the air cause a good 10 seconds later it came back down and just about landed back in the boat

Yep we think it was a missing 3/4" 1/2"drive socket.Spent a week looking for it.Have know idea where it hid.But sure did come out to visit saturday.

I have hung the boat plugs on the oil cooler

So i would not forget them :)

and than some one came over to BS and of coarse we had to fire it up on the trailer
next thing i know I'm looking for the bullets that came shooting out of the prop
(Plugs)

thanks to PTR and Bigkvar they lent (gave me some at the bud ride)

Dang nice guys right there :)

Hope you getter fixed up soon Nomad
Man that sucks

Yea I been there too. It sure gets your attention real quick. Glad no one got hurt. Like Thunder said. any time I do anything to the boat now I double check the top of the air cleaner, intake manifold, and radiator.

That must be one tuff cage setup, you would have thought what ever it was would have broke out of there on first impact. I feel for ya bud. :(
