Anybody from this site I would be glad to work with also I will taylor this motor to a site members boat, Like I did Snipers he had a weird request that I never had before and I made sure to meet it! Also the new cam grinds are working killer improved fuel economy and less harmonics at idle!

It's just a joke.

Don't read too much more into it Aces.

Just a joke.
Not meant as a slam on Sniper, or Waterthunder.

Besides,
Sniper has made it abundantly clear that he is happy, satisfied, and has no regrets about his new motor, box, and prop. I'd guess that his satisfaction is well justified.

I don't think anything anyone can say will change that.

Least of all me.

I know Waterthunder mentioned the abillity to run on lower grade pump gas in the context of Sniper's motor, so perhaps that's wht he was refering to above.

Yes Guys that was it in a rescue operation when thing's are bad like in New Orleans you cant all ways be guaranteed that you will be getting high octane gas so I had him design the motor to run on regular gas with out doing damage to the engine and still have good power and as usual he accomplished that but I expected nothing less from him that's why as long as he builds engines I will buy them from him if I should ever need another one

That's exactly what it was he was concerned about having a hard time finding good gas during a catastrophe and being forced to run low octane fuel. So I removed some cylinder pressure (to prevent detonation on cheaper gas) and made horsepower elsewhere! Trust me his boat is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BEAST NOW! I also mean this in a good way if there was anything sub par with it he would know he maintains and mechanically pays attention more to his airboat then about anybody else I have seen!

Thunder, I have a question for you. I have a 850cfm holley carb dual pump and dual feed. .090 jets in primary and .125 in secondary with a holley blue fuel pump. Still having problems of running out fuel when running 2500rpm for more than 1-2min. Should that set up keep up with the fuel flow or do I need to change carbs to maybe a dominator. This is on supercharge 0540. What do you suggest?

Thanks,
Geoff

Geoff, Try a predator they flow to 930 cfm and work great on an aircraft motor. I have a spare that I had rebuilt you can try.

Dave.

I ran a Lycoming GSO 480 for a while last year. With a Holley.

The needle and seat's, have different size feeder holes, I ran the largest ones, I think it was 110cc. these regulate the gas going into the bowls, and with hudge jets, even with good fuel flow, theres your restriction. As well make sure you have 7 pounds, when running. My supercharged motor had the manual pump, it was a bypass type. The supercharged motors were rated 52 Gal per hour, on takeoff!! It requires lots of fuel.
Be VERY carefull, if you are leaning out, under boost, cylinder temp. will skyrocket! This will waste your rings, and cylinders.

hmgm, Paul Dixon at Airboats Unlimited has a carb built/modified for the supercharged 0540. His boat certainly doesn't have any performance problems. I remember him pointing out the carb when I was boat shoppin'. I'm sure he will be glad to steer you in the right direction.

What is your fuel pressure doing? it sounds like you are running out of gas to me. I been there done that myself with this demon carb. You need 7 psi normal and I would say no less than 5 psi at WOT no matte rhow long you hold it open. I have been known to hold mine WOT for 5 minutes or more one time I made a run wide open for 15 minutes

To tell you the truth, I can only tell you what it is keeping at 2100rpm about 11-13 pounds, you see the gage is located behind me near the carb. When I am running the dry trail back to the cabin (lot of twists and turns) I am running about 2500rpm average with some burst of 2900rpm. I can turn up to 3500rpm. So I can't keep an eye on the fuel gauge when running that trail.

Geoff

Something is wrong or your running the wrong carb when a Holley goes over .100 on a jet size. The carb WILL NOT function properly with a jet that large. I have seen several dozen bad ass supercharged motors run with a 850 Holley so unless your 200 cubic inches bigger then everybody else ort making more boost something is wrong in your fuel system! Dumb question how much boost are you making. I saw a problem like this 6 years ago when everyone blamed the fuel system and it was something else and it took months to convince them what the problem was.

hmgm123,

Could possibly be a lifter problem. More than once I've had a "running out of fuel problem" turn out to be a couple of weak lifters.
Just a thought, hope you solve the problem.

Grant

Never thought of that Grant.,
How'd you wind up diagnosing that one?
What clued you into that fix for the symptom?

I actually found the problem when I was replacing a cylinder. One lifter bled down with slight pressure while reinstalling rocker shaft. After replacing that lifter and a couple of others, the "running out of fuel" problem disappeared.

Grant

The number one problem I have found on them supercharge A/C motors and this also happens with car motors is people do not account for the additional boost when they hop up a turbo or blower. Have you noticed that it turned more RPM's at one time and now the more you run it the less RPM's it turns?
