total timing

On my new zz4 gm calls for 10 degree initial timing and 32 degree total timing. We have set our other 350's at 8 degree initial . Is 10 degree too much at initial timing as i have heard so much about preignition and the damage it can cause? Also should I plug vac advance after setting or should it be hooked up? Engine sounds great and I want to hit the water Saturday! Also any advice on breaking in this engine? Thanks for help, Dean

the timine shoiuld be set as advised by classic 28-30 total no vacuum on pump gas and i have ran up to 36 with good fuel at about 4000 rpm
