Trim Tab question

How well do they work?

My boat gets on plane just fine, but has a tendency to porpoise. I can back off it a little and it is ok, but I would like to lessen this a little. It makes for a rough ride for the wife and kids.

Would it also help with keeping the boat on plane at lower speeds?

I run a 14' combee with a 400 direct drive. So I don't do much, if any, dry running.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

They will help on some hulls, and are the only way that other hulls are manageable. It will help the porpoising and on some boats help you stay on plane at lower RPMs, get on plane I am not sure.

A few things to remember:

Trim to much and the nose goes down. Thought you had a wild ride before, with the nose down the rearend will whip around so fast and unexpectedly that you can be in trouble.

Don't run on Dry ground with the trim tab down. Will ruin the trim tab motor and could possibly hurt the hull after a while.

Run the trim tab all the way up when in vegetation. You spin fast with the tab down and you can rip it off the hull.

Try to get on plane, trim it down, you want to feel or see the bow drop a just a very slight bit, then tap the trim tab back the other way just a hair. That typically helps stop the boat from running on the nose as much.
