Mudpuppy - thanks on the offer for the computer/printer again. That worked out great last time.
BRING IT AGAIN!

I've been saving boxes. Last year, the boxes were a little on the TOO BIG side. I'd rather have smaller boxes, do more labels, and not have them FALL APART in transit. This stuff is important to get there otherwise it's a waste of our time.

Last year, all were good, but some of them were looking sketchy.

I've been saving a few boxes. About 6 or 7 so far left over from Christmas and our recent move.
GONNA NEED MORE.

I'll bring a pistol grip tape dispenser. I'll pick up a 3-pack of clear tape.
I'd like to urge someone else to do the same.

***************

I've got about 50 customs forms blank and ready to fill out. We can get more.

***************

Looking forward to this event! It's always good to put these things together for folks that it brings a little piece of home to.

***************

Oh, one item left off the lists (I think) TELEPHONE CALLING CARDS. Need to be good for international calls. Always good to toss one of them into each box.
This is a good item if we have any corporate sponsors to foot the bill for.

***************

Thanks again Bobby & DIAMONDBACK & LOUGHMAN LODGE for paying the postage, and providing the host facility.

:)

Spoke with Operation Shoebox last night, you can only adopt a troop for the full term of their deployment. So I told them to e-mail me an address and we would send some stuff their way.I think we have plenty of AB family and others serving overseas we can take care of as well.

Moodfood-

Just to let you know, I have been emailing back and forth with Skeeter, I have been getting boxes from Publix, they are saving them for me, when I get them home I go through them and pick out the best, have quite a few!

Also, have Gander Mountain gift cards, thanks to Mike Hankins from GM, that I will place in envelopes, have about 20 or so.

My school is collecting items, I told Skeeter, my sister-in-law and I will be there early to help pack, we did last year, enjoyed it!

Let me know how else I can help!

awesome Vicky! Bishop Wright donated $100 at the FAA meeting I'll use that to buy some phone cards or other products. MarshRider donated some magazines to include too.

Question: Is it good to send gift cards for a place that has no locations there? I mean, there ain't no Gander Mtn stores in Iraq as far as I know. Maybe we should use them and send the products? Just thinking out loud. I'd hate to have them get lost in the shuffle and need to be brought home before they can be used.

Big score for the troops no matter what!

See you at Loughmans! :)

Oh yeah Mood-

Laurie is giving me back issues of Airboating Magazine to throw in too. I'll bring those. I will do the article/pictures for the magazine. Between you and Skeeter, I can place some names with faces! Thanks

10-4 Vick :) - it's looking to be a great day. My wife is gathering some interest at Florida Hospital with her co-workers. We'll either get some nurses out with stash, or she'll just collect at the hospital.

ALL ARE ENCOURAGED TO MAKE A "COMPANY EFFORT" WITH THIS! Get your boss involved, tell your co-workers. Anyone can bring in a bag of hard candy, baby wipes, silly string, or calling cards. Toothbrushes, etc. It's not hard to do!

And every little bit helps.

:)

I have noticed the comment about boxes. I will be on the lookout also for boxes but can you tell me about what size you are looking for. Also do we need anything else in particular? While out I was in Wal-Mart and I was speaking to a guy whose son is over there also. I told him about this Operation Ride and asked him for his sons name and address. This is his son's second tour. Seemed to be real nice family. I have to e-mail him and he is going to send me his son's info. Hopefully we can send his son's troops some things. Thanks. Let me know about the boxes and if there is any other need -- tape, ect.

Yes Bob - THANKS! Looking forward to meeting you.

Yes we can use some boxes. Better to have to many than not enough.
The size needs to be reasonable - they have to be proportional to the weight of the contents so they don't fall apart.
I'd guess nothing larger than a case of copier paper. (approx 11x17 x 14tall)
But it's all good.
VickChick says she has a lot of boxes. I have about 10 (so far)
I've got a stack of 50 of the customs forms.

YES on the tape. I've got one "tape gun"
We're gonna need a few and plenty of re-loads. We're gonna seal these up real good.

One thing not mentioned very much is telephone calling cards.
BE SURE THEY ARE GOOD FOR OVERSEAS CALLS.

We need to get someone to write a brief letter describing who we are, why we are doing this, and asking that these items be distributed to those who have a need. I think last year Rick wrote the letter on Southern Airboat letterhead. Maybe this year from Seminole County Airboat Club?
We'll need to run off 50 or more copies of the letter.

We need a return address to put on the boxes and the Customs Forms. Last year we used the s/a.com p.o. box. That will probably work again this year, if Rick approves.

Bottom line - if we end up with to many boxes we'll burn them- not a problem. If we end up with to much donation - we'll get more boxes and make a second shipment! I'd say effort should be on the contents, not so much the boxes. I'll go BUY boxes if I need to - no problem.
