Got the push rod housings polished and put back on then reset all the rocker arms. I painted the starter bracket flat aluminum and alternator bracket gloss black. They are bolted on with all new hardware. Thanks to Johnnybird here on the site for donating the intake hoses, crankshaft seal and some other gaskets. I then got the intake tubes bolted on and the oil return tubes cleaned up and reinstalled with new hoses and clamps. The valve covers are not Bud's. They are mine that I put on just to keep the dust out.. Old School Wayne Cone Custom Welding cast aluminum covers. Pre-Billet CNC .Still either need to get the stainless covers from Westside or Bud's rechromed. Waiting on the starter. I will rebuild the mags tomorrow.

:D VERY ,VERY sweet :!: are those hex torqes on those jugs. the gold bolts? I;d like somathem, please 8) ............were do ya find that good gray-engine paint? 220gpu rebuild w/Jitzu 520's. :thumbleft:

The gold cylinder nuts are the factory Lycoming narrow deck nuts. They are old nuts that I have plated gold cad. I do the gold nuts on all my motors. I like it better than the silver. The Lycoming Gray paint is Tempo Aircraft Engine Enamel in spray cans. The cylinders are also painted with Hi-Temp paints. I buy my paints by the case from my parts suppliers. I have it if you need some. I also have Continental Gold. You could also buy it from most any engine overhaul shop and some pilot shops.

Mike you are a true artist when it comes to Aircraft engines you have done an out standing job and you will have made a wonderful old man very happy, I am so glad that I suggested that we take the engine to you.

Mike,
I picked up a boat a while back that hase the WC covers on it--- until today, I had no clue what the WC was on the covers and was going to take a pic and post it here. Since I had never seen them before , I was wondering what they were all about --- for my education, what can you tell me about them and their history ?

BTW-- great job on Bud's motor !!

Wayne Cone was one of the old time original airboaters down here in the Glades. He died about 3 years ago. He had a welding shop and built towers for boats and aluminum airboat cages. He always had a red boat with a Rebel Flag painted across the deck. Waynes claim to fame was the Worlds First Airboat to Bimini. He took his airboat from Ft. lauderdale to Bimini. Because the chromed covers always rusted Wayne took the old aluminum Lycoming valve covers and made a mold and poured aluminum to make cast covers. They took a lot of work to get them polished and all the holes to line up. He made a bunch of them. His business was called Waynes Custom Welding. Because of the WC The covers have been refered to as Wayne Cone covers, and some have called them CW Custom Welding valve covers. I will always call them Wayne Cone valve covers. I have a few sets for straight valve and angle valve 0-540's. They are not for sale..

Mike,
Thanks for the info--- the boat I picked up has all Aluminum rigging/cage and the WC covers with an O540 . It's red -- I wonder if it's one he built. I'll have to get some pics posted
