Turned mine over this past weekend...

rick

Administrator
...a piece of the polymer came loose, acted like a flap, and sent it over in about 3 feet of water/marsh. I've been whining about the condition of my polymer for awhile, but never thought it'd turn me over.

I was the only one on the boat and it didn't seem to hurt a thing (except my digial camera). My buddies & I just rolled it back over & bailed like crazy while we held the boat up. I even fired it up & idled back to the ramp.

Oh well....guess I gotta go to the polymer store now.

Just though I'd post this to see if anyone else has had a similiar experience.

Rick

Rick, glad to hear you and boat are o.k. A friend of mine had his come loose several years ago in the channel. The boat sunk in about 15 ft of water.

glad to here your ok heard alot of bad stories about polymer coming off and boats fliping over don't want to see it.

Glad your ok Rick. Never had it happen to me but heard about a Seismic worker haulin buggy down the river. Polymer came lose and acted like a water break. Tossed him forward out of the boat onto a sandbar. Broke his neck instantly. Then the flap broke off and the boat ran over him just to make sure. Story goes they spent some time looking all over for him in the river and couldn't find him 'til they moved the boat and there he was under it.

I got it in a safety briefing so it may or may not be true. Sounds almost plausable though.

Safety aint no joke neither is maintenance.

You going to have a rivet bucking party??

All the best man. Glad all is ok.

Whitebear, it was a neighbors boat that sunk in the channel about 10 yrs, ago . Would be glad to provide you with his # since you find it so unbelievable. Rick, you may even know him as he lives and runs in our area. Several people in our neighborhood have airboats and barter work to help each other out. Didn't know there was anything wrong with a cold beer after working hard helping out a friend or neighbor. I have a CDL and operate and maintain my equipment in a safe manner. Just sharing some experiences and offering any advice or assistance.

I don't find it unbelievable or even hard to believe at all. I have been suspicious of it because of the way the info was presented to me. I have no way of following up on safety briefings out in Louisianna that happened 10 or more years ago anyway. A lof of safety briefing tales are made up to illustrate a point not to document an actual event. Hence, to me it may or may not be true but it does sound plausable. (It could have happened)

I certainly have no reason to disbelieve it if you know who it happened to. Got no reason whatsoever to be suspect of you.

The event I am talking about would have happened in Louisianna or East Texas sometime before '97-8. I used to know the name of the company but don't remember now. I was with a different company and it was said to have happened the year before I got there. The story went the boat did not sink as it was sitting on him on a submerged sandbar. Cause of death was reported to have been a broken neck.

Sorry if I ruffeled your feathers Geneva0550, that wasn't my intent. Again my apologies if I intruded or spoke wrongly.

Whitebear, no problem just a misunderstanding. I guess I took it the wrong way because of the reference to buck riveting and my offer to D-brewster to bring bud light when he comes up to build his hull. I enjoyed meeting and talking with you in the chat room last tues. I am new to posting and just respond to something if I can relate to it. When your back in brevard maybe you could come up to orange/seminole and run with us sometime. Sorry I took your comments out of context.

No sweat man. Text is difficult to infer intent or mood from anyway. No matter who writes it orhow its always in the context of the readers own experiences.

You bet I'd love to come ride over that a way. I can back up rivets with the best of em as well, so once I'm back don't hesitate to ask. I'm always ready to lend a helping hand.

I really do enjoy the chat room. Real time is the cats meow.

Scotty

"Man that polymer wore out fast" "Didnt seem like I'd run it that much"

Perhaps that what your thinking Rick, but maybe it had more running on it than you thought:

I know it ain't that funny man.
Glad your ok. I bet that was a freakout, but it coulda been much worse.

Let's fix it now.

I bet there's probably 25 members here who will show up with rivet guns and bucking bars, whenever you say. So just say the word.

I'd also add that anytime I ever saw your boat Rick, it was in an immaculate state of repair. Rick keeps his boat right!

Guess I'd better get out there, and look at some of the rivetted platsic we have here! It's been a while.
If it can happen to Rick, then it can happen to any of us.

Hi Rick,

Sorry for your missfortune. Glad you're all right.

TSE is a great company for polymer. I use a grey hdpe 80"x160" about $350.
Worth every penny, out lasts any I've tried.

Grant

Sorry this happened to you Rick but also glad you and the boat are fine. Let us know if we can help.

Rick,

Yes, glad your ok

I gotta agree with Cowboy that i thought your polymer wasn't that old. I can still remember the pics when you was puttin her together.

he's probally got a little nick in it, and all his buddies watched him. That's what you get when you spend more time on the ground than in the water.

Got that right Rich,
All his videos are pound'in ground, and hardly any wet running.
Makes me wonder if he ever puts a drain plug in the transom. 8)
