Upper St Johns.

I suppose all the trails are open right now. Is the water in winder up to the tree line? I taking my daughter out there hunting for a couple of days. My tents still out there i wonder how it faired had to work the last 4 week ends didn't get in any hunting. Any body going out there this coming week end.

Was out there last night, trails had some water ( mostly puddle jumping) but all in all the water is down some from normal.

ONCE MIKE GETS BACK FROM KISSIMEE TOMORROW OR FRIDAY, WE'LL BE DOWN AT THE SANDY DIKE TILL SUNDAY. HE'S SURE WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET BACK THERE AFTER ALL THIS RAIN.

Wolf creeks that dry . I will be at the Indian mound should be two boats there and maybe some one till monday.

WHEN YOU HEAR TWO BOATS RUNNIN INTO SANCTUARY TOMORROW AFTERNOON BETWEEN 1:00 AND 3:00, THAT WILL BE US AND OUR GOOD FRIEND GARY. GONNA TRY TO RUN THE EAST TRAIL TO THE DIKE. THAT'S USUALLY THE EASIEST WAY. HAVEN'T BEEN BACK THERE TO HUNT THIS SEASON.

HAD NO PROBLEM TAKING THE TREE LINE INTO THE SANDY DIKE THIS WEEKEND. THERE WAS WATER ALL THE WAY UP TO THE LAST TURN. PUDDLE JUMPIN ON THE WAY OUT MONDAY. OUR BUDDY GARY'S BOAT WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HIS MAGS, SO WE LOADED UP HIS GEAR AND TOOK HIM IN AND OUT. LITTLE FOUR BANGER DON'T DO TOO BAD WITH THAT NEW WHIRLWIND. WHEN WE LOADED UP DRY MONDAY, WE RAN ABOUT 2200RPM ON THE WAY OUT.

SEEN BOATS AT INDIAN MOUND. DID YA DO ANY GOOD?

What most central Floridians call the upper St. Johns, and what I call the upper St. Johns are two entirely different things.

Up here where I live in the Jacksonville area the St. Johns is more than 3 1/2 miles wide in places. It turns East in downtown Jacksonville and out to the ICW and then the Atlantic.

Need water ? We got it. Come on up. It's all deep water runnin though. The shoals in the river are pretty skinny but I can show you a lot of places that are over 100' easy.

olf

Well it was real dry by the mound my buddy blew a jug at camp but John pulled him back to the water so he could tow it home. I could hear a boat popping trying to run toward old mans camp. I plan on being there this coming week end (1-6) with that old brown pos boat of mine. yes i did lose my seat cover so disregard the sheep skin cover its temporary.

well my daughter shot her first squirrel and more First time hunting. I didn't really hunt more or less i was just a guide My friends ended up with one pig about 50 lbs. no body saw any dear.

yeah, our buddy got two pigs about 50lbs each and i finally got my first kill of 2006 a squirrel at dusk on new years eve. i wasn't going out an NKP . ( my first two shots were misses this year, gun's broke and in the shop) probably be out there this weekend, probably back at the dike.

When talking about rivers, "Upper" refers to elevation or UP HILL parts of it. In most cases this is also the north since most rivers run to the south.

Jax is the Lower St. Johns in regards to Elevation, and in a river, elevation is what it's all about. How many feet does the St. Johns drop? I once heard 1 inch per mile and it's 300 or so miles from Melb to Jax. That'd be a 300" or 25' drop?

The rain is doing us good around here (central Florida) for those who were at the troop run, the river is over a foot deeper. It's about back to where it was for the wedding. Still no water in most of the trails.

We still need more rain though. It's pouring outside in Orlando at this moment. Yea Rain!

Glad to hear it's coming back in the Melbourne & Winder areas.

matt.

If you get down to the stick marsh , look at the dam on each end of the
C-54 canal. The east side of the east dam is the Sabastion River,
which is less than a mile from the Indian River, right across from
Sabastion Inlet (sea level ) The Stick Marsh is likely close to the
average water level for the St. Johns head waters, maybe just a
tad higher. Have'nt looked lately but seems like the drop was not
more than 6 or 8 feet at each dam. Now allowing for a mild degree
of error and a not so mild degree of redneck cyphering looks to
be about near sommers around 10 to 20 feet above sea level at
the headwaters of the upper St. Johns River. ( give or take 20' )

all I know is... water typically runs down hill, rivers typically run south, except for a handful worldwide of which one is the st. johns. Frogs typically dont like full moons or the sound of my airboat LOL.

Any one going this week end We plan on being out there at the mound for the last weekend of deer.
