Serpentine is the way to go they last longer and track better! Plus they use a tensioner which takes up slack when the engine rev's up! I use a serpentine when ever possible!
I have run v-belt for a very long time on caddy engines and have had very little problem when below 6000 rpm but on sbc engines I have tried to go to serpentine as much as I can because with the higher rpm I feel that that are a lot better ..... also when you look at reliability the serpentine has a lot less chance of leaving you without a belt ....... and all of the new cars run them for a reason
Here is a good pic of my serpentine belt set up. I use all stainless brackets and bolts. I mount all hardware and accessories on my break in stand. I level each motor then drop a plumb bob off the alt to the main crank pulley this way I know all the pulleys are dead square and line up! Notice the tensioner pulley this takes out the slack when a motor rev's up I prefer this way more then an old V-belt set up! I also like tucking the alt in tight and keep everything nice and narrow!
So who sells the best for the best price? Saw March had pulleys and nice alt brackets for about $260.00. Not unreasonable but any better deals out there? :?
