Volatage Question?

I have a 0540 straight valve. I have what appears to be a car style alternator, and my battery is less than a year old. When i turn on my lights, it pulls down to 11 volts, even when the rpms are up, is this normal on a a/c motor, or do i need to go to a double battery system? I am able to run two 55wt offroad lights with my running lights and a 100wt headlamp without it going below 11volts...

that doesn't sound right to me. my 200 did that. i changed the alternator twice and then finally put a new sending unit on it......problem solved!!! stays at 13. i wouldn't go with two batteries. thats just extra weight that you don't need. its probably either your alternator (make sure your belt is tight too) or your sending unit / rpm activated relay in the alternator.....depending on what kind.

With the electrical load off what is the voltage? With the engine reved up to 1500+ you should get a minimum of 13 1/2 volts. Check the voltage at the alternator and the battery. You could have a problem with the wiring between the two. Post the results and we can go from there.
