VOLUSIA COUNTY

Officer Henry Jones, Investigator Jim Moreland, and Lieutenants Bill Hightower and Kevin McKinney worked a detail with Seminole and Volusia counties’ deputies. FWC officers had information regarding air boaters in the area of Beck Ranch killing deer at night by running over them on the prairie or shooting them with arrows. Deputies had complaints of air boaters in the same area disturbing the peace. During the detail, several stops were made on boats in the area and one camp check was conducted. A number of boating violations were addressed with citations and warnings, no resource activity was observed. Joint details and information sharing will continue on this and other matters of mutual concern.
 
Venison is more expnsive than lobster ,especially if you get caught tryin to sneak one out. :crybaby:

Problem is we will probably never hear who made the complaint, if it was legit or not, so it becomes another example of alleged bad behavior by airboaters. After the story circulates a while it will be viewed as fact.
If true they will eventually get caught. In the mean time all airboaters suffer because this type of story is rushed to print. It would be nice if LEO's just finished the investigation, then told the whole story.

This maybe nothing more than an excuse to harass airboaters with the idea of gettin the word out.

That cooperative sting yielded a few boating violations with warnings and citations given. "No resource activity was observed" , meaning no dead deer found .

There are rogue's out there but this one smells funny .

That's pretty much how I see it.
Can't say it did'nt happen, and we all know it does sometimes.
There are bad guy's out there.

Problem is nobody can say for sure that it did happen.

Tell a half truth often enough, and it quickly becomes fact in the court of public opinion.

Paint all airboaters outlaws!

That's what it looks like to me.

I got told once that only poachers use footsteering on their airboats!
Guess I'll be a paocher once I re-rig for footsteer on some of the rigs we've got.

It's the cop killer bullet / assualt weapon of the airboating world!
 
Dont know for sure, but I had the impression that foot steering was developed by and for froggers WAY back when.

I ain gona comment on chasin deer, been there n done that, but Winn Dixie is easier and cheeper, and burns less gas. I'll just go riding and enjoy the boat and a few frogs n fish.

This is no different than joint effort patrols on the intercoastal waterways, freshwater lakes, and rivers during holiday weekends. A few boating violations with citations and warnings are common on most any weekend on most any body of water with most any kind of vessel. I don't see the significance of distinguishing airboats unless, as mentioned before, the FWC and sheriff departments are trying to discourage illegal activity before it occurs. I've seen more than few property owners report illegal activity without probable cause to do so. I myself was questioned not too long ago after shutting down my boat for awhile and carrying on a lengthy conversation with my passengers while sitting on the edge of a lake surrounded by federal and state property. Apparently someone "assumed" I was poaching because I shut down my engine for an extended period of time and called FWC and reported as such. I was met by the FWC officer at the boat ramp as I was leaving and he was very nice about it. After going through a question and answer session the officer determined there was no wrong doing. He did explain that they have to respond to complaints no matter how bogus they may be.

No harm, no foul for me as I really didn't mind the officer getting acquainted with me and my boat for future checks. There were a couple of things he pointed out that I should do on my boat such as "readily accessible PFD's" don't mean storing them in the front hatch with a portable seat on top of it. I didn't notice any reporters writing up my check and I really don't think the officer was interested in writing a story either.
 
sounds like he should have checked to see if you could swim .........I would have paid BIG bucks to see you go over the front. GLAD your ok .
Wish someone had taken pictures of the launching....
 
Jdot, good post as far as I am concerned. I am sure it doesn't have enough attitude in it to satisfy most folks on here but I know it is the truth about how you feel about it.
 
Hey Rich I actually went over the side of the boat. The post was sticking out of the water about 6" to 10" and launched the boat in the air slightly. The jar threw me off balance and I spiraled around the rudder stick like a pole dancer. Unfortunately the stick gave way and I rode it down to the side of the boat where, at that point, we parted ways. If there is ever a lucky way to hit a fence post that would be it. No damage to the boat at all except for the bent stick. :D

Cntry in my case the attitude is with the person calling in the complaint of me poaching. It is ironic that the lack of sound drew the attention. Some property owners have the clout to render such a joint effort than others.

Life is good here (Destin Fl), Fwc is outa cash, not allowed to take out any boats over 50hp till the new budget is approved for the next fiscal Yr. We went from seeing 10 boats a day in the pass to 0. they do try to do a good job but they all seem to be newbeys and have absolutely not a clue what the hell there doing..
 
I REALLY THINK THE ONE DAM FROG STARTED ALL OF THIS ! NEVER CAN BELIVE THEM ! ANYTHING THAT SHOOT WATER OUT ITS BUTT TO JUMP ! CANT BE TRUSTED ! :D HEY CHRIS YOU FORGOT ( GOOD LOOKING ) TRASHEE AIRBOATERS :shock:
