Osceola County -- County commissioners agreed Monday to postpone voting on an airboat-noise ordinance until Jan. 22 so county attorneys can tweak the measure's language, officials said,

Paul Nguyen, assistant county attorney, said there were "kinks" in the language that need to be ironed out. The measure follows wording of a state law that says airboat engines must be equipped with...

Rick,

Wouldn't that cover some of the Kissimmee chain?

I also don't like the verbage of "could be modified to include operational hours

Looks to me like it'd cover just about all of the areas I run on the Kissimmee Chain:

Was anyone aware, communicate, attend or follow up that Osceola county is up to something of relevence concerning the Kissimmee chain? Anyone know what Osceola is planning and have a counter plan?

Folks, I hope you all who enjoy this land are members of KRVSA....Danny Brantley is watching this won like a hawk and believe me when I say that you will not have better representation at these meetings than he.

Yep, on the ball & feel better already...........

Did you know anything about it, Phil???

I'd rather have Danny at the plate fighting for us than some others who are among us, at least we'll know up front what we're getting.

Adam

I don't believe this one was brought up at December's meeting..at least I don't recall anything being said. We definately need to keep up with this one. And by the way.....it's NOT noise, it's sound.
And yes, Danny is the one I want to be fighting on my side.

Yall know what coming ! 600pm to 800 am curfew ! They dont need a majority for that ! We are not policing our deal enough !You see a person thats not complying tell them ! Just Fact !

The kiss chain was always thought to be one of our last places we would be allowed free running but that is changing fast. I have heard rumors coming for okeechobee as well. BAD WINDS ARE BLOWIN

This is not good news, and plainly speaking, we are powerless to stop it.

Yes, we can protest. Yes, we might gain a few more years here and there. And no, it isn't fair or right. But eventually, in my opinion, it will happen. This is all tied to long term plans for development, some of them projected as much as 25 years into the future, and the money behind some of those plans is in numbers that none of us country folk can even begin to comprehend. Chase Financial, just as only one example, is already positioning themselves to be able to absorb more than $185 billion dollars in new real estate transactions, just in our State, within the next ten years.

We're currently going through a little softening in the housing market down here right now, but the Fed (who is controlled by big money) has seen the error in their ways and by April '07 the big neon 'For Sale' sign over our State will be as bright as ever. That is due in part to the fact that we had such a mild hurricane season this year. Northern investors tend to have a very short memory about things like that.

The down side to not having hurricanes, historically, is that now a lot of us are having to run our boats in ditches where there were once waterways.

The future of all boating (not just airboats) in Florida will be severely restricted in the future. Again in my opinion, it will be mainly an off- shore or heavily traveled navigable waterway activity. The best that we can hope for is to try to see to it that we are treated as any other privately owned watercraft, and to fight at every opportunity against being singled out as a group. We all need to act as responsible boaters ..... not just airboaters.

Sorry if my comments have offended anyone.

Like the hurricane said to the coconut tree ... hold on to your nuts ..this aint no ordinary blowjob comin.

All counties in florida have on file a comprehensive plan for development in their county. It includes a future land use map, indicating what they envision for the future. They can be changed but it is difficult and expensive for a developer to do it because the interest clock is running on the mortgage on the raw land ... but it can be done.

There are thousands upon thousands of building lots already platted dating back to the 1920's that were never developed but often were sold, I believe river ranch is a prime example of that. Highlands county has a huge amount of these lots as does desoto county. Lee county has lehigh acres, collier county had golden gate estates which finally got mostly built north of the alley but south of the alley were thousands more of lots that were platted and sold but the state bought them back for the most part.

No one wants to hear it but if we dont get these boats quiet we will lose them. It always seems to come down to feeling like aircraft guys are gonna lose, well they can be quited down as well as a car motor boat can be, but the vast majority of all airboaters doesn't seem to realize that all airboats must change or be lost. When and if the bans start coming it will not specify a/c motor or car motor it will simply ban airboats period.

These opinions are not mine, I don't need any hate mail, I built a super quiet boat that hauls a big load goes fast and is fun to drive. I was told it cost too much to build, OK I am now building a lawnmower engine boat that will be super quiet, go fast and be fun to drive and be inexpensive and very economical to operate. It probably will be met with just as much cynicism as my big boat was but at least I will build one of them and prove it can be done. It is sorta like pissin your pants in a dark suit, it gives you a nice warm wet feelin that no one notices but you.

So stay tuned sports fans, the fun is just beginning. The legislation passed last year should have been to not allow discrimination against any vessel based on the type of propulsion used but it wasn't. That is what often happens when legislation is rushed to be presented the ramifications of it are not readily visible. I( am not bashing the FAA I am over that, in fact it might be time to get them to join with the jetski lobby and the outboards lobby to get a new anti-discrimination law in the works that truly is an anti-discrimination law rather than solely an airboat law.

There is a small thread of comments going on at that news link. If you posted comments there, be sure to check back for replies.

There seems to be one or two anti's there we have the opportunity to talk directly to.

Actually, I'm sort of surprised - the anti's that have posted there seem to be of lower intelligence than I expected them to be. At least judging from the few sentences written there by them. I can't tell if it's a kid, or an Alzheimer's patient making no sense.

This MUST NOT PASS in Osceola!!!!

I wonder where we'd go to see "the language" they are trying to "tweak"????
Does anybody have the wording of their law?

Right on. That's the nutshell right there. For the WHOLE situation.

It's something we should be able to live with, and something the anti's should be able to live with.

That leaves only the inconsiderate operators out there, and that is enforcable by LEO.

Well said cntry.

Hey ya'll,

I'm with mood on this one...

I think maybe it's time to break out the pen and paper. E-mail links or addresses anyone? Before the first of the year would probably be better as the comissioners would have these letters walking into the first such meeting!

Brad - your comments at that newspaper link are friggin' GOLD WORDS, brother.

"Show me the money?" What special interest group is behind this? It is obvious that money can change a lot of things. Look at the wonderful job Osceola County has done planning development. How about the great road system they have, surpasses only Yeehaw Junction. I remember riding the lakes of Osceola County when they were beautiful, before Million dollar homes, before clearing "Natural Florida", before the population invasion. We had a peaceful, beautiful state.

Another opinion (and you are legally entitled to it)states the startling of game. Are you kidding? Where did you move here from? How many hours do you have riding an airboat? I am not attacking you, I am just wondering why people move here and then pick apart a way of life my family has recreated for three generations. If you have any amount of time on a boat you would see that most wildlife does not move far if at all when an airboat passes. I live on the water, ride my boat almost everynight teaching my children about the wonders of our state's natural beauty. The wildlife does not vanish, and guess what? It still has a home.

Osceola's population expansion and clearing of thousands of acres did a lot for wildlife, huh? Nobody complains about the sunshine, warm temperatures, no state income tax, yet we can sit back and allow government officials to spend tax payer time and money on issues like airboats. OK-maybe a few people do not like the sound, but that boat was there BEFORE you, you knew it was there, do not move where it is. If you see a snake and do not like them, do you go sit by it? A Harley Davidson is loud too, try to restrict that.(Yes, I ride one of those too) Let's spend our time and tax payers interest making this state a better place for the children.

Making this state rise above the rest in education, employment opportunity and the overall quality of life. Let's find something positive to strive for, rather than another restriction. This is merely my opinion and I would like to thank the men and women of the armed forces of the greatest country in history for their sacrifices to allow me and others the right to voice our opinions in free will!! God belss America.

That says it all: If you are anti Airboats - you are for bad schools and crime... AND destroying Florida. PERIOD!!!

Hey ya'll,

Noted elsewhere...this meeting was postponed until January 29th at 7:30 P.M.

Everyone has been asked to meet in front of the courthouse there at 6:30 prior to going in. No boats, just please come to show support of this ordinance not passing.

Part of these is from another post. The only people I have hard feelings for are the bastards running away from misery up North and spend their entire retirement trying to convert Florida into the $hit hole they just left. I'm doing my best hurricane dance this year I want a few Cat 5's and massive flooding with no fatalities of coarse. I just realized the insurance companies may inadvertently be the only people who can control growth. Wait a minute maybe that's why our state government is finally in session right now to limit them because they were slowing growth to much with their rate hikes. HMMMMMM. I also realize there is a big push to lower property tax's because retirees can't afford to move to Florida. Heck maybe I have been a fool all these years maybe State income tax is a great thing that will keep some people from moving here to. It's tough but these high insurance rates and property tax's is what slowed the housing market so maybe they ain't all that bad heck I would gladly pay $500 more a year if it controlled growth and kept Ethel and Walter in New York!.

You got it, Thunder. It's almost impossible to buy insurance on anything built before 1992 now, when the new construction standards went into effect.

You might just have something there.

I always heard we don't have a state income tax because of the money tourists bring in.

If that's the case, I hereby propose that we change the state motto to:

FLORIDA:
"It's a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there"

And have that plastered on every advertisement that plays up north during the winter!!! LOL

Thunder - I'd pay that amount too, but I don't just want to hand it over and get a hollow promise in return. There needs to me something solid and tangible in place to back up that guarantee.

Good thought process you got there! :)
