Water in My Caddy Engine

OK I usually have a cover for my motor but it's at the shop getting copied for a buddy of mine. I knew I should have covered the motor but I wasn't home and the rain water has maid it to my oil AGAIN. it's coming in via the intake bolts. Any ideas

I will bet you cash money that it is going down your distributer shaft if you have an HEI with a vacuum advance. I had this problem and the solution is simple, drill a small hole on the down hill side of the bottom of the distributer so the water drains before it gets to the shaft. The rain runs down the vacum advance into the distributer and when the level gets high enough it goes down the shaft. I am a big time duck hunter and 70% of my running is in bad weather. I have never seen water seep in through the intake bolts on any of the caddy motors I have been around.

The 2 bolts in the middle of the intake do not hold the water like the out side and when I took the intake of you could see water stains on the gasket. But I'll try drilling the hold.

large deposites of water or small amount.and how many times has this happend.cam walk can be bad sometimes on the caddy and the pump ecentric will wear into the timing cover mine did. i had to jb weld the cover. if it continues i will either buy the new ss cover from potter or go electric water pump which ever is cheaper.

SAME PROBLEM COST ME A MOTOR ! IT CAME IN AROUND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ! I SILICONE THE GAP BETWEEN THE HEAD AND INTAKE AND PUT A PIECE OF METAL AND SILICONE IT TO COVER THE CROSS OVER HOLE !AFTER I PUT IT TOGATHER NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SINCE IT STAY IN THE WEATHER ALL THE TIME ! YOU COULD SEE THE STAIN LIKE YOU SAID BETWEEN THE PORTS !I THREW AWAY THE METAL PAN GASKET !

Almost every Caddy running right now has water on top of the vally pan. This is not from a leaking intake in my opion, this is condinsation. I use to paint my valley pan gasket so it would not rust out. Now I drilled through my intake and installed a breather so I would not get the condinsation buildup. If you do not have your intake sealed well enough I guess you could get water under it through the front or rear, but it is real common to have condinsation on the vally pan.

I've pulled 2 motors off this airboat and they both leak water and the only way I seen where it was coming was around the intake gasket. It left a nice water stain between the head and intake. I've had that rust on the valley pan but the first time I bet I pulled a full glass of water out of my oil pan. I don't have a oil filter but I got one coming I'll drain the oil out tonight and let you know how much water was in it.

I ALMOST HAD A HALF GALLON IN MINE THE FIRST TIME ! FROM THE INTAKE TO HEAD ! THAT WHY I SILCONE THE GAP BETWEEN !AFTER INSTALL ! NEVER HAPPEN SINCE !

If it was coming in from the distributor, it would be pretty hard to tell. Might want to address that just in case. JMO

my caddy boat hydro locked after setting in the rain several times i fnaly realized the heads hold water like cups behind the exaust ports put some good copper header gaskets on and reduced the problem

I used to have the same problem then I started using fibre intake gaskets with silicone instead of the metal valley pan type . And like plum crazy I also use copper exhaust gaskets. It seems that if you are useing the elde manifold that unless you have it cut to fit , it will leak.

That must be it because I have always had my intakes cut down. When you get the block and heads down it is always a good Idea to asure a good fit.
