Weight vs Horsepower

If you could try each engine on the same boat, what combo would be fastest in a short straightline race?

550 hp @ 525 ft.lbs 427 cid 355 lb aluminum Motown block

OR

625 hp @ 585 ft.lbs 434 cid 575 lb Dart steel block

alot is going to depend on your hull (witch was not mentioned) I would think because of the weight savings on the aluminum block it would be the better motor choice but this is one you need to ask water thunder about

I guess I have it wrong somehow. It seems everyone want to know "how fast it runs ?" me I just want to make sure it keeps moving no matter what :D

Please tell me your building a race boat we need some more fast boats around here, things are getting booooooring!

Race boat? According to everyone here in Cocoa I have one. Every time I go to the river someone wants me to race someone. I guess the boat looks faster than it is I don't know, it's kinda fun though.

still do, just no water to run em on. I don't know why those unsanctioned races don't occur anymore? Last one I attended, nobody got hurt, and some pretty good racing went on.

It became just like street racing in the 80's everbody got to afraid to loose so everybody quit racing and plus everybody is into that mud bog and sled pull stuff now! Let's put something together I know two boats from Melbourne that put it on everybody racing at the Milk bus Saturday heck they even had polymer! We need a Rivalry to start! Heck there were some major rivalries between Melbourne and Coccoa a bout ten years ago we use to race every Thursday!

If I could find my ole buddy Rich Summerlin....he had a step,FI 520 that was tough to beat..(ride boat).

Maybe Billy Williard will get tired of the buggy stuff and do another airboat?

Sure wish Felda didn't go under, that was the best racing I ever saw.

if all other things equal- hull, prop, gearbox, tune, etc...........loose 220 lbs or gain 75 hp............... id loose the 220lbs.
on street bikes we'd figure 20 lbs is a tenth......if its the same idea here thats a big diff., but if they are both heavy boats it may be a diff. story....
i got it..... take the aluminum block and hit it with a 100 shot. c-ya. :D

I remember them Thursday nights, one night we counted over 80 boats at the oak head. Dave, I need to come down and show you my new ride sometime, I still have the 350 from the green and white boat, but with better parts.

Do you remember a Purple massively heavy deck over with a big fat guy on it That was my old barge! I have a cool video I need to post of it racing!

I WAS THEIR MOST OF SATURDAY DIDNT SEE NOBODY BUT AT THE RAFFLE DEAL !WAS OUT THERE AT THE BUS WATCHING THE FUN ! SEEN YOUR OLD BOAT DAVE I RODE OUT BEHIND SWAMPJET AND PARK ON THE NORTH END ! I NEED GLASSES :D

Billy Willard has 2 new boats, he was plannign on bringing them out for the nigger nationals at polluted waters a couple weeks ago, but some problems occured and he brought a ride boat. He does have some bad ass trucks thaT Clint Arthur built him.

Thunder, we race every saturday. either the bus or miles point. Wont be there this weekend, going to EngleWood to do some fishin.

Glad you'll are keeping it alive! might have to come down an visit and bring a couple ole ride boats.Or we could put on another one in lake George? Or orange lake. sound exciting. If you'll are running all the time down there i'll bet there are some hard hitting boats?!Getting on subject its hard to trade weight for horse power.

Waterthunder, I say we just start somthing. Meet once a month at a Loughman Lake. This used to be a big place to race 15 years ago. It is centrally located and theres even a nice resturaunt there now. Back then people would come from all over and race each other.
Every weekend is fun at first but it is easy to get burned out and there is this thing called life that gets in the way. Family stuff and etc takes up other sat as well.

A few years back we met once a month (during summer) at Lake Harney (gophers slough) The 1st time we had 13 boats the next time there was over 50 boats.
Do it the last saturday of each month @ Loughman Lake during the spring and summer and see what happens.

Gotta go I need to go work on my 2.5 ton military jeep i am building hehe

CRACKERSTYLE, Our neighborhood boat ramp area is on gopher slough. I remember those races. Ole burnhum up was usually there. Skeeter and Al's property backs right up to the slough. With the water down there is plenty of room to unload here. Maybe we could plan a bbq also.

We got a little off the subject but I think the lighter less hp block may be better in the long run. Handling wise and maybe less fuel consumption cruising. Hell, like T-Rex said, I could throw a shot NOS to it if I wanted to race.
