Anyone know when that Westgate River Ranch thing is this year ?

Thanks :?:  :wav:

I'm not sure, but I think I recall word of it not happening this year, or being cancelled forever or who knows what. If it was till on, I think it's in May, and you'd think we'd be hearing of it only 2 months away.

Sorry! I hope someone proves me wrong! I was looking forward to it too.

Nice to see you on the forum Harvey. We miss you down here in Florida! Have not seen you since the Salt Springs ride in june 2005. Don't be a stranger!

Maybe you and me can paint our faces camo and storm the river ranch some night and CAUSE our own stunt rodeo this year! Yeah!

Folks,

No FAA River Ranch this year.

A few reasons.................
* Never enough volunteers to spread the job around of pulling off a major event.
* Patty about killed herself prepping for the last two RR events
* RR did not deliver on the services they promised.
* Juvenile Diabetes Foundation did not deliver with outside (PR)recognition for the efforts of the airboating community.

The FAA event for May 20 is the Quiet Airboat Demonstration at Loughman's Lodge. If there are any activities a group may want to conduct during this event let me know. Maybe we can do something. The Quiet Airboat Demonstration really needs to draw a large crowd and hopefully have airboaters depart with new ideas on how to drop their sound down.

This event brings in hundreds of airboats.........attendence is 5-7 thousand. Space for conservation clubs is free if you want to show, recruiet or raise funds .

THE 17TH ANNUAL AIRBOAT & BUGGY SHOW

Saturday & Sunday, March 25 & 26, 2006
At Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Dania, Florida

Wow!

Go to the club website and then to the "new club pictures"--at the bottom is a picture of a monster hog caught up here in our neck of the woods! Enlarge the pics by clicking on them. Whew, Bad to the bone!

What about offering sound testing events for people to see what sound levels their boats produce. Some of the results might surprise boat owners and could convince a few to get to work on reducing sound. I, for one, would love to know what sound levels my boat operates at. I know I'm quieter than some boats but I still may not be compliant with the varying counties decibel ordinances. At least I would know what county to ride and which ones to avoid!

With time permitting, you may be able to get measured at the Quiet Airboat Demo. Show up & register your boat & do the course. My guess is we should be able to measure 20-40 boats during the event.

That's a great idea JD. We thought of trying that at the melboune run in August '05 but none of us really knew the scientific rules to be sure, and there just ended up not being enough time to measure out a course.

Let's say there is not enough time an the day of the event, or that some may not be able to attend. It would be GREAT to be able to take the db test 'on the road' at one of our monthly runs. The more it gets out there, the more the FWC and lawmakers would be impressed.

Taking it on the road would also allow someone who may have been measured, and made some changes to be able to measure the result of their changes.

Just a thought.

That's my thinking. It would be nice to have quarterly tests at different locations for the first year. There could be several key benefits here:

1. Positive proactive approach demonstrated by airboat owners and communicated to the public through various media sources.

2. A benchmark to measure effectiveness of various methods and products aimed at reducing sound.

3. Many ideas, products, and methods being tested by numerous participants rather than each and every boat owner going through the "trial and error" approach to reducing sound.

Matt, that's a good thought ...... the first event on May 20th will be a learning experience for a lot of us. After this thing is refined a little, we'll learn how to make effective testing a lot more mobile.

And you're right ... it will show legislators that we're trying. That goes a long way toward fair treatment.
