What ever happened to the Blue lightning?

They're in production, Robert. Contact Swampjet (Bob Hoover) if you're interested in one.
They're only available in a 2.3 to 1 ratio at present, but they're a finely made, very precision piece, and they weigh 80 lbs. less than the Franklin drives.

A little bird told me that within the next 6 months there will be a couple new units on the market from another company. I dont want to ruin thr surprise but wait and see.

The next run on the cnc machines will be in may. There will be 10units made on that run and we are taking orders for them now. They only weigh 59 lbs. and fit late model chevy. It now can also fit the LS motors. There is a beautiful setup at GTO airboats that they built using a Water Thunder motor and the Blue Lightning Belt drive. We call it Thunder and Lightning. Beautifully boat.
Another example is at Airboat Pros. Chuck has one on a hoped up V6 that is WICKED COOL.

Allready talked to them. Should be interesting

Man, I can't wait to get 80 lbs. off my transom and pick up a little more reduction.
That should be the ultimate setup for the way my old boat is rigged right now.

anybody know how durable they are? they look to be real easy to break.will they fit 80 model block?how will that belt hold up with the sun and weather on it?

im not a engineer imo its a far superior design than any before it one main bearing assembly that would support a tractor trailer way less centrifugal force on the the unit and the engine because its probaly less than 1/2 the lengh ,the main carraige of the system is more than twice as thick and solid billet apposed to cast , and personaly i like the fact i can see an inspect my belt at a glance its simply a better mouse trap and all this less than 60lbs , im pretty sure the one i have was one of the originals tested for a while and is in perfect shape

what is the cost? is it cheaper or more than a new gear box?

The cost is $ 2600.00 and I have one in stock. The ratio is 2.3 to 1 and it
weighs 59 lbs. You can call Airboat Pro's at 352-330-1015 or stop by and
look it over. Thanks, Chuck

Chuck, how much does the engine stand have to be modified to go from a Franklin to the Blue Lightning ?

How much will it lower the prop compared to a CH-3 Franklin, and will I have to slide my riggin back also ?

Hey Olf, I suggest changing the rear part of the engine stand. The prop shaft on
the Blue Lightning is 11 inches above the crankshaft and is 12 inches on the CH3.
The prop would be 1 inch lower. You may need to move the rigg back some but i
don't know how tour boat is set up. Chuck

Ha! Plum, it's been called a barge, but never a tour boat before ....... .
Kinda fits my style though. Nice and easy.
