What is a "free running" hull?

to me a free riding hull is a hull where you are running a 8ft wide trail, and you see someone coming, pull the stick, hammer the gas, and the hull spins around and you resume the other way. Like my old Thurman..

Jimmy White makes a free running hull. Also from what I here so does Mike from Lake Wales . There are lots of boat builders out there that make free running hulls alot of what makes a free running hull is how you set your rig up and how good your bottom is worked to run what you want .

To me a free running hull rides up on a plane with just the back 4' feet of the hull in the water. It rides neutral on a plane at speed. A free running hull doesn't ride on the nose or hook when you turn.

I had to watch that again. That little bat is bad @ss. I don't see that kind f boat over here in Dunnellon. I guess I need to make anther SA ride at the St. Johns to see them in person.

Thats funny you asked this ? boblee. I was just wondering the same thing after reading one of waterthunders statements of a boat he was riding in ran on the nose and porpised.
Most guys think a free running hull is one that doesnt ride on the nose and the spray coming off the back of the boat is about even with the headers (3 ft). Thats the ordinary guy but I have heard alot about mounting your engine 1/4 bubble low and working the bottom and getting it to run lose and walk on the chimes. Some say you put it on a concrete slab and put just enough jack in it to have it rock a little and some put less or more jack for racing, cruising and riding the hill.
Hopefully someone will chime in (cont 520) and give us the rite formula to run the hill, run the water and racing

That boat belongs to Mike McCallister (spelling?) in Central Florida. The hull came from JC Stanley in Orlando.

Rick that is one sweet running boat great video . A good step boat sure is fun to ride always had fun on mine :D :D

To me a free running hull is when you are just cruising and you see no spray at all coming off the side of the boat. For a ride boat a foot or less up the rear is good! A free hull is not a official technical term and will mean something different to everyone. But a sign of a good free hull is when you let off the gas and it keeps sliding at the same speed for awhile! Nothing that rides on the nose is a free hull.

Good post yall heres my spin to me a free running hull is one that runs and gets on plane with the least amount of effort and runs (cleanly) no spay or minimal out of the back side of the hull at any speed . Thats just my spin, thoughts, what ever you get my drift :D A clean running hull is a fun riding hull

Cracker I always just slide my boat back off the trailor and set the back half on cender blocks then I will take a straight edge to see how much crown I already have if any and then adjust accordingly. This is just to get it close after that i will take it to the lake run it tune it untill I get it the way I want

cont 520 are you putting a strate edge on it to get it flat or to see how much the jacks are pushing the bottom down to create a hump!

Use it for both depending on what you are looking for .flat bottom helps get you on plain a little easier . To where a crowned bottom run better on plain and or the hill just gotta find the fine line of happines . Personally I like to run my motor a 1/4 - 1/2 bubble above level just my personal preferance

heres a pic of a free running hull when haulen a$$ water only comes out the middle of the back. i am going to go out on a limb and say maybe there might be 10 to 15% of people on this sight that have one. most boat bottoms are not set the right way.
