That’s the oil screen housing. Where the threaded part comes out is usually where a oil temp probe goes in.
 
Just about any mechanical or electrical with temp sending unit oil temperature gauge you can find will work. The easiest/cheapest is a mechanical unit. They are called "Capillary" temperature gauges and they come pre-assembled with a sensor that screws into the port, a length of hose and the gauge, all pre-connected. You need to figure out the size of the gauge (usually 2-1/16") to fit your panel and how long the capillary hose needs to be to make the run from your gauge panel to the temp port.

Tons of options out there, you can get them at your local autoparts store. Here is one link. Note that the various gauges have different length capillary hoses.
