What kind of steel for engine stand???

Hello, was wondering what kind of steel is acceptable to build by engine stand. I hear "mild steel" can someone advise the number of that or do I need something like 4130 which is often used in aircraft? Thanks...Fred

12 or 14 gauge one inch mild steel should be fine. .065 Chromoly or chromium-molybdenum steel would be better. I do a lot of aircraft stuff and you can't beat 4130 for light weight structures. I like the square tubing, so, mild steel works for me. You can't go wrong either way. They both will eventually rust.

A-36, is standard mild steel, and comes in all dimensions ie, angle, channel, flatbar,
pipe, square tubeing, sheet steel, or what ever you want.
It works very easy, and is very durable, yet is flexible enough not to crack
as easy as some harder materials.
