That appears to be a Continental PE150 GPU. It is missing the acessory cover, inake , oil pan and is upside down. That is the motor currently on Ebay right?

Thanks yall. Yes, that is the motor on ebay, and I was trying to justify buying it. The thing is, the guy who is selling the motor is local for me. Matter of fact, I am visiting family there tomorrow. I always get excited when there is airboat stuff local, that I can look at before buying and dont have to worry about shipping. It looks as if the motor had a prop strike, due to the picture showing the flywheel with the "prop" still attached. What do yall think, is it worth anything?

The pics are a bit fuzzy but to me it looks like the prop was pretty bad and the blades were cut off for easier storage. I have never seen a blade break that close to the hub before. If the crank is good it could be a nice bottom end to build off of, put some 470 angle valve jugs or convert it to a 520.

So here is some more info on this motor. First, the prop was cut off for storage. No accessories at all, no oil pan nor oil pump. Unknown what condition the motor was before take off, although he said he thought it ran but couldn't confirm. He said he is selling it for someone else. One plug hole on the jug, so its believed to be a PE-150.

I am a little scared of this engine, and dont know if it would be to heavy for my 12' x 7' - 3/4 deck Palm Beach style. Any opinions on a motor like this on my boat?

I just bought a boat with the PE-150 and I'm really impressed. It has the single mag but it runs great and performs better than I expected. I wouldn't hesitate to get another engine like it. However, I don't think I'd take that engine on Ebay unless it was free. Even then I don't know if it would be worth the cost of shipping. I see a lot of good units for less than a $1000 that are complete. Of course they are all in Florida, so, that is a consideration.

Yeah, I am thinking the same thing. The amunt of money it would take would put me over 2200, and that seems to be the going price for 220's.

I still think that would be too heavy for my boat. My engine of choice for this boat would a 200 lycoming.

So what would you guys want for a first, second, and third option if you had my boat?

Airag,
You almost got it.
Click on your edit button, and see what the picture text looks like now.
You'll notice the address is different from the one you tried.
Here's how to find the right address.

Open that same picture in your gallery.
"right" click on it.

New window opens,
scroll down to "properties"
Click on that.
New window opens that displays the webaddress for the image itself.
That's the address you need for putting the pictures in your posts.

You almost got it down.
Just go find that picture address.

BTW,
Somebody had to tell me how to do it when I first came here.
Just trying to help.

It could be that going to aircraft cylinders on your current engine might be the best best for the dollar.

A stock 220 really puts out about 180hp.
If you did a good a/c jug conversion, you might get near that horsepower ballpark with your 4 cyl.
Perhaps your current propeller might even still work well with more pitch dialed in.
You might be able to get a custom oil sump, and loose alot of weight right there also.

It might be less dollars that way, and you would'nt have to re-rig major for a six cylinder.

A 180 or 200 would be great on that boat.
I do believe it would handle a 220gpu no problem if you wanted to put one on there.

Thanks Cowboy! I have been trying to figure out how to post a picture for the past 20 minutes or so, and my wife just figured it out for me....but you beat me to the punch.

I thought about that, but I figured shipping cost, jugs, pistons, machine work for the case, rebuilt mags, etc... would put me back quite a bit. And since I have no idea about the specs, I would have no clue if the crank was okay, bearings, etc...With that much money spent, and never worked on one before, I thought about a complete new engine for alittle more money.

Just a thought, but I wonder the total cost of shipping my spare engine to JC, or whoever, letting him rebuild it, and shipping it back. I wonder how much that would set me back? If I could get 180-200hp with this engine, it would perform like a lycoming 180 then, I would hope.

Hey AirAg, I was lookin through some old pics and found this one for ya.
It is a 4cyl GPU with 470 aircraft jugs and dual mags and a custom intake.
the only machine work is drilling the case for the 2nd mag.
something for you to think about
