I want to build a hull to hold 2 guys one about 280 and the other 160 that or get a thinner fishing buddy. if one boat won't hold us we may just have to build 2 boats. I'm trying to find a engine with around at least 50hp and I'm thinking of make a 10X8 do you think 50hp with the right prop would be enough to push the boat good with 2 men in it or should i make it a 1 seater? i will be make the hull out of wood and glass. I'm not trying to run it dry just be able to get up in some shallow creek to fish. thanks for any help

depends on how fast you wanna go or what you expect the boat to do. You'll probably still need a reduction unit. Glass over wood is going to be a little heavy though. 10 x 8 should be plenty stable for 2 guys.

I would like it to do at least 20-25 would be good. how fast do you think i could get it to go

my buddies 10 x 6 aluminum with a 3:1 gear reduction on a 35 horse 2 stroke would do right around 30 with two light people on board turning a 3 blade composite prop. But that boat could almost compete with a pond bird as lightness goes. 20 should be doable if the boat isn't so heavy or designed that you can't get up on plane with that 50 hp motor.

Just my opinion again but a 10x8 is kinda big for a "mini" now with that said it would be stable at 8 wide but two shall we say well feed guys :would: then you figure even minimum gear that boat is loaded heavy IMHO

if the boat isn't overloaded an over built I can see hoping for 18-20

two things I would ask is why not just build in aluminum ?
and why not use just stock Pe-90 since you have to find a motor anyway for that size boat an load
