LETS HERE IT
I WAS TOLD 177.1
I WAS TOLD 2.68.1
I WAS TOLD 2.1
IS IT PEREFERCNE OR WHAT

had a 1.9 did good, had a 2.09 did a little better, put a 2.38 on my caddy and now she smokes it.i am at the limit of my 2 blade ultra wide in pitch but i love the snap.i can only imagine a 2.68 with a 3 blade would be a hot ticket like some of the guys are running.but if you are not going to upgrade the valve train components i would not use a gearbox that would let you turn more than 3600 rpm.

You have to match the ratio to the prop you want to use to nail it on the head. We have a 1.84 we are building for the stock Cad guy's. You don't want to go past 4000rpm's You would do good with a 3bl wide 80in or a 2bl super wide. Make a man out of it and it would be quieter. good luck with your build. I also have a 472 i'm going to one day bring to Potter :D

UP GRADE YOUR VALVE TRAIN ,SPEND A LITTLE NOW ,THAN A WHOLE LOT LATER ! BEFORE YOU BUY A BOX ! IF YOUR THINKING WHAT I THINK YOU THINKING ! BALANCE THE CRANK AND PISTONS !SET IT UP AND DECK THE BLOCK ! POLISH THE RODS ! AND MAKE SURE YOU RUN A AFTER MARKET DAMPNER ! THATS JUST THE BASIC DEAL ! AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR VALVE GUIDES WILL BE LOW ENOUGHT FOR YOUR CAM SET UP ! I AM NOT TRYING TO SPEND YOUR MONEY !JUST TRYING TO SAVE YOU SOME DOWN THE ROAD OR CANAL WHICH EVER YOU PERFER !NOT A EXPERT JUST BEEN THERE A FEW TIMES !

What motor and what has been done to it. If you only can turn it between 3,500RPM and 4,000RPM I WOULD RUN A 2:1 if you can turn it 4,000 to 4,800RPM I would run a 2.38 if you can run anything over 4,800RPM 2.68 rules. Most my customers end up liking to set their pitch between 4,900RPM to 5,600RPM with 2.68 and that just comes down to how and what you like to ride! P.S. this is with the right prop! And to think just two years ago I never heard of a Caddy guy running anything over 1.9:1.

WELL ME AND WOODY ARE BUILDING MY CADDIE BOAT FROM THE RIG TO THE MOTOR AND I WAS GOING TO SET IT UP AS D/D I FABED THE CAGE SO IT WILL BE RIGHT FOR A GEAR BOX AND I CAN MOVE MY STAND HOW I NEED TO FOR THE BOX THE PROBLEM IS I SOLD MY OLD D/D CHEVY BOAT AND WANTED MORE POWER BUT DIDENT HAVE THE MONEY AT THE TIME FOR A BOX OR A GREAT PROP IF THIS BOAT PERFROMES WELL IM GOING TO LEAVE IT ALONE I JUST WAS THINKING WHAT IF I WANT A BOX THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I SOLVED THE PROBLEM ILL FINISH THIS BOAT AND SELL IT FOR A GOOD PRICE AND PUT SOME WITH IT AND BUY A JIMMIE WHITE HULL AND SET IT UP WITH A GOOD CADDIE MOTOR AND A BOX THANKS GUYS
AND I WAS THINKING OF A COUNTER ROTATER ALSO

The counter rotators are cool, but with the right Caddy motor, gearbox, and prop combo on that Jimmy White hull you won't need one. You will be able to go anywhere you want to go. And get there fully loaded.

i love my stinger, use to run a percision gearbox but it chatterd more than a hooker on crank.

Our end play is already figured out for you. We can build you a quiet box. Our fully floating soft drive system helps to absorb firing events. A quality product and we stand behind it! The Rotater will do the job and cost a little less. You will grin ear t ear when you put a gearbox on it!!

Lotta good advice here, but I agree with Dan the most. I think my sig says it all. There is no magic number. Every blade design is completely different, and even when you narrow that down the props diameter will DRASTICALLY change the RPM it wants at the hub whether it be cruise, snap or peak thrust. THEN you combine the prop RPM with the torque curve of the engine to match the prop. BTW a really good person to talk to would be crowhater. He's run damn near every imaginable combo and he knows what's up. JMO

BESIDE THAT YOU CAN'T BUY A COUNTER ROTATOR BY ITSELF. YOU HAVE TO BY THE WHOLE BOAT FROM PANTHER. BUT I ALWAYS SAID AS FAR AS RACING GOES THE COUNTER ROTATOR IS THE NEXT STEP IN RACING..

If you have not done anything to the valve train of your Caddy I would not go past 1.5 on a reduction. If you have a motor that can turn 5K I would suggest the 2.3 reduction.

Lots of good info here. I was going to put a 1.77 on my caddy the Cntry talk some since into me and I purchase a 2:38. I had a 4 blade 78" stump puller which wasn't enough prop. Now I have a 4 blade Master Blaster 2.3 and I'm @ the 23deg mark turning 4500rpm. It pushes this 4000lbs GTO airboat pretty good. But you must MUST built up your valve train. Potter has some nice stuff to do that with. I punched mine out .60 and put in forged flat top pistons with 120cc heads with the bigger valves. Custom grind cam , Elderbrock intake with a 750cmf.

Amen brother!!! So many guys run out and spin these big Caddy motors up without the correct parts and then they Bad mouth the motors because they do not stay together. You must upgrade the factory valve train and get a good set of pistons.
